Meet This Sweet, Resilient Girl (Zelda will not be available for adoption for a while as we work on her medical needs).
This beautiful 5-year-old girl came to us as an owner surrender with another dog who was in critical condition. She herself arrived severely emaciated and in shock from severe anemia and has clearly known far too little kindness in her life. Despite everything she’s been through, she is an incredibly sweet soul who wants to trust and love—she just needs the time and space to do it at her own pace.
She is slowly coming out of her shell and showing us who she really is. While she may be shy and cautious at first, there is a gentle, affectionate dog underneath who is learning that people can be safe and kind.
Personality & Behavior
Very sweet and sensitive
Wants human connection but needs patience
Gains confidence slowly and steadily
House trained
Walks well on leash; currently enjoying short, calm walks to rebuild muscle and strength
Medical & Recovery Needs
She has a long road ahead as she recovers from severe emaciation. She will require:
A strict feeding schedule and portion control to avoid refeeding syndrome
Close monitoring around food, as she likely went without for long periods
Continued veterinary care as additional health needs are still being assessed
Her future family must be committed to following medical guidance carefully and consistently.
Ideal Home
This girl needs a quiet, calm environment where she can decompress and heal—both physically and emotionally. She does best with:
Patient, gentle adults
A predictable routine
Slow introductions to new experiences
Encouragement without pressure (a soft nudge forward is good; rushing is not)
At this time, a home without children is strongly preferred. Sudden movements and noise can frighten her, and she could react out of fear if pushed too quickly. Very dog-savvy, older children may be considered in the future once we know her better, but for now, an adult-only home is best.
Dogs, cats, and kids: TBD as she continues to decompress and recover.
This girl has survived more than most dogs ever should. What she needs now is someone who will let her heal, go slow, and finally learn what it means to be safe and loved.
