Dog Adoption Application

Please review these points carefully before submitting your application.

1. Application Submission & Communication:

   • All applicants must complete an online application and be able to communicate via email with our rescue team.

2. Adoption Area:

   • We only adopt within North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

   • If you adopt a dog, you must travel to Raleigh, NC, to meet them.

3. Fees:

   • A $35 application fee is required (refundable if you are denied during pre-screening).

   • If your application is approved, the adoption fee is $325.

4. Application Review Process:

   • Not every application will be approved.

   • Please provide detailed answers. We will select candidates for phone interviews based on the quality, enthusiasm, and thoughtfulness of your responses.

5. Adoption Policies:

   • GSRA does not condone feline declawing and may deny adoption to households where it is a conscious choice.

   • We require that all cats and dogs in your home be spayed/neutered before adopting from GSRA, and we will not place a dog in a home with an unaltered cat or dog.

6. Repeat Adopter Policy:

   • To ensure our recently adopted dogs adjust well, there is a mandatory 3-month waiting period between adoptions.

   • Exceptions may be reviewed and approved by the GSRA Board of Directors.

7. Communication Follow-Up:

   • If you have not received an email about the status of your application within 3 weeks of submission, please contact us.

8. Additional Recommendations & Information:

   • We highly recommend reading our adoption process page before applying.

   • If you adopt a dog but later need to return it, the dog must be returned to GSRA. Allow up to 6 weeks for the dog to be re-integrated into the rescue. If you cannot commit to this timeframe, you may incur boarding charges. All returned dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations. Please reach out if issues arise—we want to help you keep your dog whenever possible.
