Walter, 10–12 years young | Seeking: A comfy home, a soft bed, and someone who appreciates a gentleman with character
Hello there. My name is Walter, and I’m a distinguished senior German Shepherd looking for the perfect retirement companion. I’m at the stage of life where I value the simple things: leisurely walks, a few good sniffs, warm hugs, gentle pets, and a long nap on a big, soft bed.
I’m a “take me like I am” kind of guy. My hips are not what they used to be, but honestly, whose are at this age? Sometimes I do fall down, and that’s okay—I get back up. The truth is, my brain still thinks I’m about 2 years old, but my body does not always agree. Every now and then I get a little carried away trying to run after my person or a ball, and my enthusiasm writes checks my hips can’t quite cash.
That said, I’m still a wonderful companion. I love a nice easy stroll, and then I’m perfectly happy to hang out while you enjoy your hobbies. Working in the workshop? I’m your man. Crafting? I’m happy to supervise. Cooking? I would be honored to taste test. Watching TV? Just point me toward my dog bed and I’m ready to settle in for the evening.
Walter first appeared at a kind stranger’s home on his own, and they made sure he was safe, got him veterinary care, and contacted GSRA so he could get the help he needed. Since coming into rescue, it’s become very clear that Walter wants a quiet, loving home where life is easy, the routine is gentle, and the bed is soft. He would do best in a retirement-style setup with minimal steps and people who understand that senior dogs sometimes need a little grace.
Walter is calm, sweet, low-maintenance, and full of heart. He is happiest just being near his people, asking for very little beyond comfort, kindness, and companionship. For someone looking for a loyal old soul with a little silliness still left in him, Walter may be the perfect match.
Ideal date: a short walk, a snack, a cozy nap, and being close to the people I love.
