Ginger
Ginger has the kind of soulful brown eyes that stop you in your tracks. Look into them once and you understand pretty quickly that this is a sweet, gentle, loving girl who simply wants to be near her people, hang out, and settle into a good, calm life.
We believe Ginger was used mostly as a breeder dog before she came to us, which means that at four years old, she is only now learning what it feels like to be somebody's dog. That history may explain a few of her quirks: the way she still believes she is starving, her slight hand shyness, and the sense that she does not always know what she is being asked to do. None of it has dimmed her sweetness. If anything, it makes the gentle, trusting girl she already is all the more remarkable.
In the best possible way, she is something of a blank slate. We honestly believe Ginger is the type of dog you could mold into almost anything. She has a bit of a stubborn streak, but the more time you spend with her, the more you realize it is not stubbornness at all. She just does not always understand what she is being asked to do yet. Show her, be patient, and she will meet you halfway.
She is also wonderfully, endearingly clumsy. Ginger does not always seem to know where her body is in relation to the world around her. She will turn around and bonk her head on a table, or swing her hips into a chair, and carry on like nothing happened. It is one of her odder, more charming quirks.
A few things her future family should know about Ginger:
She is not much of a barker and keeps a peaceful household. She does well with other confident dogs. She is house trained, though she will absolutely steal food off the counter, because deep down she still believes she is starving. She is slightly hand shy and responds best to body pressure and firm, gentle guidance. Give her the "mom look" and she knows immediately that she has crossed a line.
Ginger loves nothing more than rolling in the grass, but she would be just as happy as a mostly indoor dog. She rides beautifully in the car. And she is curious about new things in the most agreeable way. As long as her person thinks something is alright, Ginger is on board too.
This is a dog who wants to belong to someone. Give Ginger patience, structure, and a place on the couch, and she will give you a steady, devoted companion for years to come.
