Meet Whiskey!
Whiskey is a handsome, 80-pound gentleman with one of the sweetest temperaments you could ask for. He greets new people with an open heart and a wagging welcome, and his easygoing nature shines through from the moment you meet him.
During his assessment, Whiskey let us examine his ears (clean), check his teeth (in great shape), and handle his paws and tail without a flinch. He takes treats so gently from your hand you'd think he was afraid to crinkle the wrapper. He sat politely on command for a bite of wet food (he is, unsurprisingly, food-motivated), and when a stuffed dog and a real dog were each introduced into his space, he handled both with zero drama — a sniff, a polite hello, and then off to explore the yard. Shelter staff also report that Whiskey doesn't react to the rowdy dogs in the pens he passes every day.
He'll need a little polish on leash — he pulls some and isn't exactly a straight-line walker yet — but he responded well to quick turns and corrections, and we expect he'll improve quickly once he's out of the shelter and able to decompress in a real home.
Whiskey hasn't had the easiest road. Through no fault of his own, he found himself without a family and without much of anyone looking out for him. But despite all of that, he's still trusting, still affectionate, and still ready to love whoever loves him back.
Whiskey is heartworm positive and will need to go through treatment. He has been neutered.
Other than his medical needs, Whiskey looks like an easy, joyful foster — no separation anxiety, no behavioral red flags, and a temperament that's a pleasure to be around. If you have a soft spot for a calm, good-natured boy with a lot of love still to give, Whiskey would like a word.
