I've found my furever family!

~2-3 years old. Good with kids and dogs. Cats TBD. Currently going thru Heartworm treatment. WESTON's trial will officially begin once his heartworm treatment is complete. Hi! Meet Weston. He is a handsome 2-3 yr old stray GSD mix that ended up in Wake County Animal Center. At first he was happy to have a roof over his head food in his belly and lots of wonderful people paying him attention. He was a happy boy and a shelter favorite. As each day went by he started to lose hope and at the end of about 3 weeks developed depression and became shut down completely to the world around him. He would not even lift his head up to respond to people when they walked past him on the adoption floor. Since he was a shelter favorite they became very concerned and reached out to GSRA. He touched the heart of the GSRA people who came by so much that they vowed they would get him out and put him back on track to become the happy go lucky guy that we knew was inside of him.He has been in foster care for a month now and life is SOOOOO good ! Weston gets along with other dogs but wouldn't particularly care for a dog that gets in his face all the time. He likes to have his space at times but also wants to be part of a pack. I have three GSDs that he gets along very well with and he has been incorporated into our pack easily. I haven't exposed Weston to cats yet but will in the near future so for now to be safe I put TBD.Weston's world revolves around his humans and he wants to be everywhere that they are. He loves to cuddle and put his head under your arm or on your lap for attention. He is one of the sweetest dogs ever!! If given the opportunity he will be happy to share your couch with you. He does know the difference between couches for dogs and couches for people. Weston has one of the best temperaments ever and will go up to total strangers for some attention. He adores children and is extremely gentle around them. He is content to stay in the house and hang around with you and will quickly become your velcro dog as is very typical of rescue dogs. He has started playing with toys and is now interested in playing with my GSD's. Weston is so sweet that it sometimes makes training difficult. What I mean by this is that when you would give him a command he would more than likely understand the command but just wouldn't feel like doing it at that time. He would then come to you lovingly with his sweet self. Well we have to work around that sometimes!! He will sit now before his meals and sit before going for his walks or being allowed to come back inside from his walks. He knows leave it come off and most of the time lay down. He is house trained and crate trained but doesn't particularly like being in a crate. He prefers to be baby gated in a room. He now has gained free roam to our home when we are not there and this does not come easy in our house!! He is just that trustworthy. The only thing that he goes for is the remote so make sure that it is well out of reach! Weston walks well on a leash and really loves and needs to go for his walks. At first when he came to us he just meandered around on his walks taking in all the sights smells and sounds. Since he was so stressed we just let him. Now his walk has become more structured and he walks mostly at a heel. Weston will need continued obedience and structure but does respond to a calm correction most of the time. He definitely needs a pack leader like all GSD's do. If he doesn't have that leader he will feel the need to take over. Weston has at times become vocal with people outside of his pack. He would start barking at them in which he was trying to communicate. Since we feel that this is not a desired trait we correct him. It can be rather intimidating for a dog to bark and walk towards you but Weston does not possess any aggression whatsoever. He just needs a strong leader to correct him and he will stop immediately. He has only done this once with us. Everyone that meets Weston instantly likes him. He does not have the classic looks of a purebred GSD but has a heart of gold second to none! He is a sweet loving little guy that will brighten up many homes!!Weston is overall very healthy UTD on all his vaccinations neutered and micro-chipped. He is heart worm positive but the rescue is treating that with his first injection on 4/10 and his following injections on 5/15 and 5/16."
