TRYON ~1 year old. Good with large dogs and cats. Not good with kids or small dogs.GSRA adopts to residents of VA NC and SC only Yes we know...Tryon is not your typical looking GSD. In fact there's a good chance he doesn't have any GSD in him at all. Regardless this little dude needed rescue badly - and GSRA was more than willing to help pulling him into the esteemed rank of "Honorary Sheppie"!But let's not focus on what Tryon ISN'T let's focus on what Tryon IS! First off - the guy is smart as a whip! He learns commands quickly and is extremely food driven making him a joy to work with. He has had professional training and excelled in everything he was taught. He has a real knack for agility and would be a lot of fun to train with. Tryon is wonderful with other dogs! He has been around large dogs small dogs old dogs young dogs and treats them all with respect. He LOVES to get down and wrestle with dogs who are up for that kind of thing but has learned that when a dog tells him "no" he needs to walk away and find a game to play by himself. He is also a really good boy with cats. He spent much of his puppyhood growing up with 2 cats and they taught him that "cats rule and dogs drool" so while he will enjoy a game of chase every now and then he has never hurt a cat and most definitely respects their space when swatted at. Tryon is an EXCELLENT watch dog! There is no way someone will get past him at the front door (or back door for that matter!). He is alert to noises outside but doesn't take it to extremes. He lets you know someone is there but he doesn't go on barking ad infinitem. Among his other great traits are that he is: crate trained house trained leash trained a wonderful companion runner and a great car rider on top of all that. Now I know you are all reading this and waiting for the other shoe to drop. You're asking yourself if he is all that and a bag of chips how come he isn't adopted?? Well because of his rough start in life Tryon has a few hang ups. He is frightened by small children (we have no idea why) and he gets stressed when visitors come to his house. basically he's not a social butterfly type dog. He adores his people and his fury siblings has no problem hanging out at restaurants or pups or parks but just isn't keen to make new friends. Like many humans Tryon finds it hard to trust. That said once you are in his circle of trust you are in it for life..... and you could never wish for a more loyal pup.If you are looking for a compact (maybe 50lbs) sleek athletic dog and cat friendly smart enthusiastic cuddler you should ask to meet Tryon. What he lacks in classic GSD looks he more than makes up for in his devotion to his humans. So that's Tryon the Honorary Sheppie.
