SOPHIE ~2 1/2 years old. Good with cats. Kids and dogs TBD.Sophie was turned into the Durham County shelter and when GSRA picked her up she was fearful and emotionally closed down. My guess is that she had a previous life that included neglect and possibly yelling and maybe being hit with newspapers or something. However after just a few days she bonded and began to relax and show her sweet personality. She is very affectionate and submissive and wants to be with her human as much as possible. Luckily I work at home so that is not a problem. Because of her early life I don't think she really got to be a puppy. She has now gotten comfortable enough that she is doing a lot of puppy behavior: chewing trying to see what the boundaries are We are working on these behaviors. She will need an owner who will be a strong pack leader and tell her what to do. Even though she is not aggressive at all she needs to know the rules in whatever house she i s in: this will help build her confidence.Sophie seems to be medium to low energy for her age although this might change when she settles in to her forever home (I've only had her 6 weeks). She will lie quietly in my study while I work for hours each day. She likes walks and will walk for a long time (what dog won't?). I take her for walks around my urban neighborhood and at a forested park (Eno Park) and she rides well in the car. She guards her home appropriately and gives a couple of barks when someone comes to the door. She is very eager to please and so is easy to train. In just 6 weeks she has learned: come sit leave it off hup (jump into the car) and to walk nicely on a leash. We are working on: down stay quiet and place (as in &ldquogo to your place&rdquo). I'm in the process of crate training her and I think she will do fine with the crate. She is now housebroken and this would need to be reinforced when she goes to her new home. She appears to have a very low prey drive but will chase squirrels in the yard. She is not yet particularly interested in balls or other toys but this might change.Sophie is essentially a very sweet and loving dog who wants to please and catches on to training quickly.
