Meet Rosie – Timid Heart, Big Potential

Rosie is a beautiful, light-colored black-and-tan German Shepherd with a sweet spirit and a lot of love to give once she feels safe. She was found behind a department store with four puppies. The puppies have since been adopted, and now it’s Rosie’s turn to find a loving home.

At about 2 years old, Rosie has lovely white teeth, a shiny coat, and is on the thin side, though she appears healthy overall.

Rosie is a little timid at first and clearly nervous in new surroundings, but she has zero aggression. During her food test, she wasn’t interested in treats or toys — likely due to nerves — but she allowed full body handling during the touch test, including her ears, paws, and mouth, with no resistance.

Since arriving at her foster home, Rosie has made tremendous progress. In just a few days, she went from needing to be leashed and guided outside, to happily running out on her own and returning with a wagging tail. She now welcomes petting and affection and is learning to trust.

She’s been dog-tested with both males and females and does well, though she can get a little overstimulated at first. Once she gets a few sniffs in and understands she’s safe, she relaxes and even becomes playful. Her ideal adoptive home would include a confident, friendly dog companion to help her continue building confidence.

Rosie is crate-trained and appears to be housebroken. She’s had no accidents and has handled long periods alone like a champ. She respects her space and hasn’t chewed her towel or bedding. She also has a great sense of routine and heads right to her crate when it’s time to settle in.

Rosie is not yet spayed, and she still needs some help with leash manners — she's strong and pulls with excitement — but we’re confident that with the right guidance, she’ll come around quickly.

What Rosie needs most is a patient, calm home with a securely fenced yard and someone willing to give her a little time to blossom. Once she trusts you, she’s affectionate, loyal, and just wants to be close. Rosie may not be the dog that bounds into your lap on day one, but if you’re willing to meet her where she is, you’ll gain a devoted companion for life.
