Meet Matt — a handsome, full-blooded German Shepherd looking for a fresh start.

Matt’s owner recently entered hospice, leaving him living alone in a small outdoor pen. A neighbor has been caring for him twice a day, but he has no real companionship or activity, and he’s clearly eager for human interaction. With the person he knows, he is affectionate, gentle, and very attached.

When his owner first became ill, Matt was in poor condition with a severe yeast infection. After vet visits, two rounds of medication and steroids, full vaccinations, and follow-up care, he has recovered well. His coat is back, he’s off all medications, and he has no worms or heartworms. Going forward, he simply needs to stay on a yeast-free diet — his caregiver can provide at least two months of food to get him started.

Because he’s lived so isolated, Matt has limited experience with new people and no known history with other dogs. He has calmly observed a senior poodle and nearby goats through the fence, but hasn’t had physical interaction. He did show some warning behavior toward an unfamiliar adult human male, so slow introductions and an experienced adopter are important. He is not yet neutered.

Matt is a loving, loyal dog who needs structure, exercise, and regular human contact. With patience and guidance, he has the potential to thrive in a stable home.

If you’re familiar with German Shepherds and can offer Matt the time and training he’s been missing, he’s ready for a new chapter.
