I've found my furever family!

MADDOX ~3 years old. Good with other dogs. Good with cats but with slow introductions. Needs a slightly older confident companion animal. GSRA adopts to residents of VA NC and SC only Hi there! My name is Maddox and I was an owner surrender. My family moved and turned me in to the Durham Animal shelter. I wasn't doing well there but then I became a GSRA boy and it's been a great life ever since! I love to romp and roll around in the yard play with foster siblings go for walks and play with tennis balls and any toy that I find. I get along with both male and female dogs and do well if I have a calm confident dog to show me the ropes. I would love to have another fur sibling. I am a little scared of new situations and noises so need to know that they are ok and wont hurt me. I am house and crate trained. I am just now discovering how wonderful this big world is and am learning again how to be a dog. A word from my foster Mom: Maddox is a typical velcro dog and mainly wants to be close to his people and furry ones. He is a very gentle and sensitive boy who needs a calm structured household. Sometimes he gets in people's or dog's personal space and needs cues however is doing well at learning. This seems to happen when he is scared or uncomfortable. Maddox will need a confident human leader with GSD experience and one that is used to behavioral issues. He needs to know you are in charge and will have his back. If he doesnt have that he will feel like he needs to take charge and that won't fare well.. He is playful and very friendly to his family and people outside the home lives to be pet and will roll over for some belly rubs. He trusts me 100% so knows he doesn't have to worry about anything but he will need the time and patience to develop that trust with his forever adopter. He did display some visitor anxiety at his prior foster home so was placed into another home to work on these issues. Care will need to be taken when visitors come over until he gets used to them. For this reason he would do best with an adult only household. He loves children but children running into and out of the house will make him too nervous. Maddox needs some leash work but is getting better each day. He knows some basic commands now such as sit down leave it off and come. We do make him work for his food and treats and he quickly sits there calmly like a good boy! We ALWAYS go out of the door first no exceptions. Maddox is good with cats however needs a slow introduction and supervision as he may chase and want to play. He rides very well in the car. He needs a fenced yard and slightly older male or female dog companion that can be a model example for him. He LOVES to hoard his toys. He will share them with his foster siblings but likes to keep them in one location. Maddox finished with his Heartworm treatment on 5/19. A structured routine patience and a quiet environment will work best for him to help build his confidence. He is such a sweet loving boy and is so worth every bit of effort that is put into him. You will fall in love with him!PLEASE NOTE: Maddox will only be placed in a very GSD savvy and experienced home. He is NOT for the first time dog owner nor the casual dog owner. His Foster is still working with him and he will only be placed in a forever home once his rehabilitation is complete. He is not ready for a quick placement and potential adopters must be patient while trust is built. If you are looking for a quick adoption then Maddox is not the dog for you.
