(3-4 years) Good with kids. Not good with cats. Dogs TBDHey there! My name is Luka and I am a very special girl. The early part of my life was very difficult but things are looking up now. I was at a shelter down to my last few hours when GSRA came and bailed me out. I knew things would be ok then. I am a very funny sweet and entertaining girl and have a great enthusiasm for life. I really just want a bit of attention and love and I am in heaven. I am about 4 years old and on the petite side. I have a fabulous smile and will wag my tail happily any time you say my name. I love to be petted and to be close to my people. I love to go for car rides! I am housebroken and crate trained. I really don't need the crate as I am perfectly behaved in the house and am not destructive. The folks at the rescue say I am a "special needs" dog...something about the fact that I only have 3 legs. To tell you the truth my leg was recently amputated but I don't even miss it. (It was really damaged in my "other" life and caused me a lot of pain). I have no problem getting around at all. Granted I am not going to be running any marathons or climbing tall mountians but I am ok with that. I look a bit funny now but once my fur grows back around my rump I will look perfectly normal. If you are looking for a sweet girl who will always be happy to see you and love you unconditionally please ask to meet me. I think my foster mom wants to say a few things. I'll be waiting patiently I know there is a perfect home for me.From foster mom:A little burst of happy sunshine...that is what I think of when I look at Luka. You just have to meet her to see what a wonderful personality she has. She always seems to be smiling and wagging her tail. Luka is a delightful little girl who has the courageous heart of a true shepherd. It is clear that Luka had a miserable existance prior to coming into rescue. At some point she was shot in the leg shattering the femur and leaving bullet fragments embedded in the joint. The injury was never treated and healed into a big lumpy mess with the knee joint almost frozen from scar tissue. Luka had virtually no use of the leg. There was nothing that could be done to repair the damage and the vets recommended removing the leg to give Luka a chance at a pain free life. She has had no trouble adjusting and can walk and trot around with no problem. Luka is very sweet and loves to give kisses. She will sit for treats and take them gently. She is alsoa very well behaved girl. She is calm and quiet when left alone and content to play with her stuffed toy. She really enjoys having a Kong with some peanut butter in it.Luka does not seem to be too fond of other dogs. However she might have been feeling defensive due to her leg. Once she recovers I will try introducing her to one of my submissive dogs. For now it would be best to say that she should be an only dog. Also a kitty free house as she has way too much interest in them. She can handle the steps on my deck very well but a house without too many stairs will be best for her in the long run. After all she has been through Luka deserves to have a family of her own to love and cherish her. In return she will be the most loving and devoted companion you could want. Luka is a very special girl looking to love a family of her own.
