I've found my furever family!

DESI ~3 years old. Kids dogs and cats TBD.GSRA adopts to residents of VA NC and SC onlyMy name is Desi and I am a beautiful 3 year old lady looking for my forever home! I am a medium sized girl with a super thick coat. I weigh about 51-60 Pounds. I take a few minutes to warm up to new people but once I trust you I am very devoted. I am a fun girl! I love to play ball! I am even good about bringing it back so you can throw it again. (I do not care for sticks). I am SUPER fast and love to run! I get the zoomies for about 5 minutes at a time and love to just stretch my legs racing around the yard.I am a smart girl and know a few commands such as sit and down. I am extremely food motivated. I am housebroken and crate trained. I am quite an intense dog.....I act very interested in other dogs but I am socially awkward. I would probably do best as an only dog. My foster mom is going to continue to work with me to see if I might possibly be able to live with another dog.I am very curious about everything. I will investigate every nook and cranny in the house. I like to cuddle on the couch and am a bit of a wiggle butt! I also enjoys watching what you are doing from the comfort of a dog bed. I am a typical shepherd...I just want to be where my person is. I am happy to lay right near you so I can watch what you are doing.From Foster mom:Desi is a very sweet girl. She is going to need a home with someone who will spend time with her and is willing to exercise her both physically and mentally. Desi is gorgeous and quite intense. She is NOT the dog for someone who has never had a german shepherd before. She takes a bit of time to warm up to new people and will try to take charge. Desi will need a confident owner who will let her know that you are the boss and in control. She will become protective with a weak individual. Desi is very focused and is constantly looking at her human for direction and acknowledgement. I have noticed that while she loves attention she is a little bit hand shy and will flinch or get a bit mouthy if you handle her too quickly. She ducks when you reach over her head and spins around when you touch her rear legs or rump. I suspect she might have been mishandled when she was younger. As she gets more comfortable she will come over and nudge you for attention. She is a fantastic dog just a bit unsure of herself. She has made great strides in allowing me to brush her...she was very nervous and jittery initially but has come to realize that the brush is not a dangerous thing.Desi has explosive bouts of energy where she will literally run around in the yard at full speed. She will run right by you like a race car....sometimes she will run in a straight line and other times she will abruptly change direction. She is having a great time and her tail doesn't stop wagging. However since she is so strong and silly when she plays like this I am going to recommend that she goes to a home without children under 15. She could easily injure a child if she runs into one at high speed. On a plus side she would be fantastic for a runner who wants a jogging partner!!Desi is a great girl who will make a great addition for some lucky family or individual. She is a super sweet girl who just needs some love and a bit of direction!
