BRIGGS ~2 year old. Good with older considerate children and dogs. Cats TBD. GSRA adopts to residents of VA NC and SC only Meet Briggs my little 2 year old cutie who's living a great foster life thanks to GSRA. Briggs was getting calls to animal control for being neglected in the backyard and one day those folks moved away and left my boy behind. Sounds sad but it's likely the event that started this wonderful GSRA life! The neighbors called Animal Control again and Briggy-boy was brought to the shelter where he caught the eye of a wonderful shelter volunteer. She saw his friendliness & his potential. She got in touch with GSRA and we got to see this guy for the little gem he is. Now he's safe & warm in my home with much love to be enjoyed by us both.I'm the lucky foster who gets to see this boy's true colors come out. He's a ton of fun and ready to learn. In the first week he tackled sit shake down and OFF! The first three are mastered but the OFF is practiced every day. Those formative 2 years outside didn't include manners for not jumping on the counter. It's okay he's learning and I'm staying consistent. He likes to spend time with me everywhere I go especially the kitchen. He will find a spot to stretch out while I cook the evening meal or unload the dishwasher. He's literally everywhere I go. The garage laundry room bedroom and of course the bathroom. If you've had a Shepherd before you're aware of this but if you haven't following you everywhere is normal. If you're shy this fellow will bring you out of your shell. He wants to share every experience with you.His hobbies are learning how good life is with people who care about him. He likes toys but they'll need to be tough he will de-stuff a soft toy quickly. A super-chewer type toy is appropriate as is a ball. We like to carry a ball around inside and outside he likes you to throw it. He's learning that if he brings it back the game continues. Leash walks are a joy with this guy. He's learning his boundaries by the use of a prong collar and he's easy to walk on a leash. He likes being outside so walking this guy daily will keep him happy and his energy focused. He also enjoyed being groomed. He likes to be brushed and a bath is the first thing he got from me. He liked his bath and grooming is an opportunity to bond with him.He will mouth like a puppy so being consistent in redirecting him will correct it until this latent puppy stage is over. For this reason I would recommend older children. He did test heartworm positive and will be treated prior to being adopted. (He's worth the wait.) If you've known the love of a Shepherd in the past Briggs continues this same pattern and he will bring that energy into your home. If you haven't experienced it yet Briggs is a great one to show you just how special Shepherds are.
