AVA ~5 years old. Good with older considerate kids calm non-dominant dogs. Cats TBD.GSRA Adopts in NC SC & VA ONLYHey there!! It's me Ava!! I'm checking in to tell you a bit about myself and see if you would like to meet me. I'm a little shy but sweet girl. I had a pretty rough start to my life but then GSRA saved me and things have been getting better ever since! They even said I will find a home with my very own family!! So where do I start?? Well I'm an Akita/GSD mix about 5 yrs old am close to 71-80 Pounds and all muscle! I also have super soft fur!! I have a very pretty black and cream coat and have very animated expressions. I am very shy when meeting new people and it will take me a little while to warm up but once I trust you I am quite a character. I have a great smile and when I am excited I will dance back and forth in place. I am also quite enthusiastic with my tail wags---I get my whole butt into the wag too!! I'm quite affectionate and will shower you with kisses!! I will lick your face your hands your jeans because I want you to know how much I love you! I get along well with my foster dog buddies too. I don't want to play a lot with them but as long as they are respectful I happily get along. I am easily startled by sudden movements and loud noises but have been slowly gaining confidence and getting braver by the day. I'm very excited to start looking for my forever family and finally have a home of my very own. My new family will need to be patient with me give me time to adjust and I promise I'll be the most devoted girl you have ever known!!From her foster mom: Ava is a sweet girl who has had a difficult start to life. We don't know much about her past: she was surrendered to a rural shelter with a horrific prolapse. The shelter manager saw what a sweet demeanor Ava had and reached out for help from us. Ava has had 3 surgeries to correct the prolapse and is feeling MUCH better and is perfectly normal now!! She was also heartworm positive but that is all taken care of now. Ava most likely had a very sheltered existence prior to coming into the rescue with limited exposure to outside stimulus. She is very easily startled by new things and sounds and prefers a quiet and structured environment. Ava tends to have a "worried" expression and will furrow her brow when she is confused or worried about a new situation. She does adjust to new stimulus it just takes her a little bit of time to adjust. Ava is sweet and friendly once she gets to know you and has a fantastic happy bounce to her step. She is a very nice girl who will thrive with a new family. She has a great personality that is just waiting to shine! She's very food motivated and will eagerly sit for a treat and if you don't ask her to sit she'll dance back and forth with eager anticipation. Ava will do best in a calm home so he can relax. She does fine with older considerate children but it would still need to be a fairly calm home for her to feel truly relaxed. We are thrilled to have been able to help this special girl knowing she will make some lucky family very happy!
