I've found my furever family!

(2 yrs old) Good with kids cats and dogs.Update September 25 2010So it's been about a month since Asia was rescued and what a great month! Asia hasfit in beautifully. She isquite the housedog although she loves her crazy time outside. She has finally earned the privilege of being off leash on our dailyhikes to the river. Let's just say that as mellow and well behaved as she is in the house she's a crazy girl outside running jumping and playing. Yesterday she chased a deer off the trail and came running back to me quite proud to have saved us from Vicious Bambi!MOST IMPORTANT: Asia is the perfect dog with our 4.5 month old baby. She is beyond gentle and loving. In fact Asia has decided that the baby is hers to help protect and in fact sleeps across the threshold of our daughter's room every night. I just can't believe that a baby and a dog can bond this closely. They simply love eachother. She'd do wonderfully with children of all ages.Oh and by the way Asia is submissive to our 15 year old small terrier. She understands that Munchkin runs things and she's in charge! Of course if you have a younger dog that wants to play - Game On!!!Original Biography:If you believe in angels that look out for us then this story is something you will enjoy.I walked into the vet one of my clients in a very rural area of NC onAugust 20. I was running late and there about an hour later than I should have been. As I walked into their reception area I saw a very skinny pretty little creamy blonde "mostly GSD" on the leash checking out. I looked into her soft brown eyes and petted her head. She was so thin and withdrawn I asked her story as the woman was leaving. This dog was on her way back to the shelter up the road. She'd been dropped off in their drop box. The shelter manager brought her to the vet to spay her but found that she was already spayed. This18 month (or so)old girl had been at the shelter for 6 weeks. This is a shelter with a very high euth rate and they don't have the space to do that for most of the dogs however they felt she was so special that they were desperate to get her out. At this point though her time was running out - they needed the space and the few people that came to adopt didn't take her. I thought about her all day and committed that she couldn't stay at the shelter again. I had looked into those eyes and I didn't want to let her die. I've worked with GSRA in the past and they were kind enough to lend their support if I could foster her as like usual there were just too many dogs waiting to come into the program and foster space is limited. I called the shelter and arranged for them to bring her to that vet as I couldn't get back to that part of NC for another week but I didn't want her to languish in the shelter. The shelter manager was overcome she was just so happy to get the GSD mix out. In fact she literally had this little girl to the vet's office within 15 minutes of our talking. Shockingly although still 10 lbs underweight full of fleas ticks and intestinal worms She was heartworm negative! Oh and she adored all the cats and kittens that were all over her at the vet's!I picked the little girl now known as Asia up a week later. She was tentative but so happy for attention. She layed down in the truck next to me for the 90 minute drive home. Completely calm and relaxed. I spent my time talking to her and petting her. She loved it! When we got home we introduced her to my 18 pound 15 year old terrier mix who runs this house. I can't say Asia has completely bowed down to Munchkin's supreme reign however they are living together well. Asia desperately wants to play with Munchie outside and Munchie tolerates it for a few minutes at a time. Then and even more importantly we introduced Asia to my 13 week old baby (2 legged). We went slowly and Asia licked her feet and walked away. As with any dog we would never leave her alone with our baby but she does fine with her. When my husband got home she had no problem letting him in as long as he rubbed her belly. Now she's not sure which of us to follow around the house.Asia is great in the house. She's had one accident but that's when I learned she does need to be let out by 7am. Otherwise she holds it till we go out and she lets us know when it's time to go out. She LOVES playing outside and although I haven't let her off leash yet I put her on a long tie out with me there and we play chase. She puts that little butt up in the air and smiles as she runs. When we do go for our leash walks she's gentle on a leash and although still being trained does not pull. Now once we're in the house we have a nice quiet relaxed and mellow little girl. She follows us around but also loves laying on her very cushy bed. She wasn't sure what it was at first but boy did she learn that one quick. She loves to eat but will sit patiently for her food. No countersurfing!!! The hardwoods have been a challenge for her but she's getting used to them. Same with stairs. Luckily she loves being groomed and with the shepherd coat she always needs it. She looks as it as another her way to be touched and that's always good.Asia is looking for a home where she will get the love and commitment she wants to give. She would do well in just about any situation. She'd love a dog park a run or long walks. She can be an only dog or have a 4 legged sibling (although probably not a dominant female). She wants to be allowed to sit on your foot and lean on you while you pet her. If you're upset about something she'll lean into you and look up at you with love - that makes it all better. This dog has a kind and gentle soul and will love you forever. I honestly believe somewhere someone was looking out for this beautiful girl. I wasn't even supposed to have crossed paths with her based upon my schedule and the vets. Had I gotten there one minute sooner or one minute later I wouldn't have seen her. And yet somehow our paths crossed and we're both better off for it. Now it's time for her to finish walking this path to the home and family that she is supposed to have.PS On Sept 4 we took her to our friends' house. She adored the 2-legged girls (3 & 7 years old) and was good with the horses! Just an all round kind gentle soul....
