(2 yrs old) good with dogs big and small good with kids. Cats TBD.Max was picked up in Asheville as a stray - twice! His owners took him back after the first time but they didn't bother to secure him or give him any more attention after this! Max isn't an escape artist he simply went looking for adventure since no one was paying him any attention at all. He was so open to stimulation and affection that he ran right up to a nearby animal control officer and jumped into the cab of the truck! His owners (thankfully) relinquished ownership of Max and he's found his way into GSRA.First there is one kernel of not-perfect news about Max: he is heartworm positive. These days this isn't that big of a deal at all. He'll go through standard heartworm treatment rest up for a few weeks and then he'll be back better than ever! Considering how little attention his family paid to him he's in wonderful health with just that one little thing to be taken care of.Max is going to make an outstanding family pet no matter the "level" of dog you're looking for. He seems to have good instincts and a great desire to please and follow commands. However he's also very content living a life chewing on toys and getting some love now and then (he loves to come lean on your legs when you're on the couch!). He's gotten along great with all the other dogs with whom he's come into contact big and small alike. Cats get him excited but I think it's more of a desire to play with them rather than to harm them. He's slightly vocal but he can easily be trained to be as silent as his adoptive family wishes him to be. He has the ability to be a superb "alert dog" right out of the box with no training. Other than the initial alert that someone new has arrived he's very quiet. Unless you take a bit too long to throw his toy though he loves to chase and return his toys if you're willing to throw them! Max has gotten along great with everyone t o whom I've introduced him. Care should be taken with small children but only because he's a big dog who doesn't quite yet know how big he is.Max is around 80 lbs. but he could stand to gain just a few more. He's a very light tan and black much prettier in person than his pictures give him credit for. He's a great all-around GSD that would probably excel in whatever direction you want to take him as your pet whether it's some formal training or just having as a love bug. Catch Max before he's gone I'm sure this great guy is going to go extremely quickly!
