Luna ~ 3 years old. Good with kids dogs and cats. Good for seniors/elderly. Apartment appropriate.GSRA Adopts to residents of VA NC and SC only.Hello everyone please meet Luna! Lunais an absolute gem in GSRA's crown and she is going to be a wonderful pet for a very lucky family. If you get to meet her your immediate impression is most likely going to be "BIG!" She is a very large girl with huge paws and a soft fluffy coat that makes her seem more like a small bear than a large dog. But what you'll quickly learn after you begin to interact with her is that her heart is the biggest part of her. She is a love bug through and through a classic velcro GSD. She loves to chase tennis balls or other toys but if you'd rather pet her or brush her she thinks that's even better! As long as she can spend time in your presence she's a happy girl. Even though she loves her people so much she does not exhibit separation anxiety. She does great given free roam in our house even when we are at work hours. She's great with our toddler and we will soon have dog and new people interactions to report on. Given how she has interacted with neighbors' dogs through back yard fences though I don't have any concerns about the big girl's manners.Lunawants to get this out in the open: she has hip dysplasia and will most likely need surgery at some point in her life. Right now joint supplements and Rimadyl - and losing a few of those holiday pounds! - are doing wonders for the mild stiffness she exhibited when she first came to GSRA. Whether she should have surgery soon or whether it can be pushed down the road a few years depends on how well she continues to respond to medication. Bottom line is that this is a treatable condition that shouldn't impact Luna's ability to live a long healthy happy life. Now back to how great this dog is! Lunais an 80 lb goof who at 3 years old is at such a great age to be adopted. She's out of the mischievousness of the puppy stage but she's still a puppy at heart and young and happy and full of love to give a family. And even though she's got a gorgeous long fluffy coat she sheds very little - what an unexpected treat for a GSD! If you're looking for a guard dog I don't think Luna's your gal. But if you're looking for a sidekick or a tennis ball fetching buddy or if Lunahad her way a large lap dog then Lunais most definitely for you!
