Sasha
We received Sasha from GSDR approximately 3 1/2 years ago to foster. She was such a sweetie that we decided quickly to make her a permanent member of our household. We had fostered two before her but she definitely found our hearts' soft spot and stayed there until her recent passing over to Rainbow Bridge. She enriched our lives beyond belief, even getting along with the two cats in residence....unusual for German Shepherd Dogs. She was my "shadow", even accompanying me to the bathroom, constantly by my side, seeing me through two surgeries and subsequent recovery periods of time when I couldn't walk her or care for her much during that time. It didn't matter to her, at least her Mommy was home from the hospital! I couldn't have asked for a better dog. She was laid back, had fun with "chasing" the cats, never hurting them, sometimes giving wet GSD kisses IF she could "catch" them! Always greeting folks with a fierce "visitors beware" bark but then quickly becoming accustomed to their presence. She rarely had to be crated, always held it until someone returned home to let her out to do her business. Just a very well rounded addition to our family. I miss her terribly and we are planning on fostering/adopting again soon....as soon as we properly grieve over her loss. We had her cremated and I just returned home with her ashes. She is resting on Rainbow Bridge now....that much I cling to and with the hope of being reunited when my time comes.....to walk again with my best friend by my side. Over the bridge and up the hill, into Heaven. Thank you, GSDRA, for helping to bring her into our lives. A better adoption I could not have hoped for. We had to say goodbye to our dear boy Barney. After more than thirteen years he had to leave us. He was there when our children were little more than babies and he has comforted us all. Now he gets to go and play with Fred at Rainbow Bridge and wait for me and Mom until we can all be together again. i will always love you Barney and you will be in my heart forever. From the day I laid eyes on Max in 2001, I knew he was going to be mine. I was there the day when he was brought in to the SPCA, a 4 month old floppy-eared, lanky puppy, turned in just because his owner didn't care to have him around anymore. We brought him home and he immediately went underneath the coffee table in the living room and went to sleep, as if to say "my spot". He never really left my side and would sleep with me at night. My dad would take him to the golf course to chase geese away during the spring and summer, but the one thing he loved more than chasing geese was riding in a golf cart. LOL. He did his job well when it came to protection and we could always count on him to alarm us if something wasn't right. Diagnosed in 2007 with Degenerative Myalopathy, we were told his condition would just worsen with age, but he didn't show any true sign of failure until 3 years later. Just a few weeks before his death. We will miss h im dearly as he was not just a dog, but a son and a brother to my dad and I. We love you Max, rest in peace
Rex
I lost my best friend today, 2/19/2011, 3 days shy of his 13th birthday....He had cancer... Rex came to us when a fire had burnt down a caretaker's camper, next day a fireman lady brought by a puppy for him whom he didn't want, so a worker was walkin with him by the elephant barn and my husband Joe said this is our new elephant dog and his name is Rex alias a famous trainer...So began the love and devotion he gave our family the rest of his wonderful life... 4ever n r hearts xoxo Ginny Zan, that's what we called her for short. She came to us at age 8 through a lady who rescued her after someone left her for dead. I am honored to say that this dog, whom someone had used, abused, and thrown away for garbage, became a part of our family. Our home became her home and she warmed up to the 5 of us. She was able to be loved and live in peace the remaining 6 years of her life. She became healthy and comfortable, and at the end of her journey here on earth, my 12 year old son and I were able to hold her as she crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge. We miss her and her quiet presence, but I can picture her at Rainbow Bridge right now; running, jumping, and most importantly, with her spirit fully restored. Good girl Zan, we will see you again one day Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
