Meet Dexter! He's a playful, energetic pup who loves to make people laugh! Every night is dinner and a show with Dexter in the house! He has such character and spunk and is always an entertainment! He loves to play with toys and bones and just about everything else. He is a mischievious little fellow so his new owner will need to be patient until he learns the rules of the house. Be prepared to move trash cans into the laundry room and food off the counter because he can't resist a nice midnight snack! He is extremely smart and learns quickly. He learned all his basic obedience skills like they were nothing. He is now flying through obedience training and will do very well continuing that training in a new home! He would do best with a more active family because he has some energy to burn and loves to go on new adventures! When he gets board, he tends to bark so he is more well behaved when exercised and metally stimulated. He is the sweetest little boy but he can get over exited when playing so would do best in a house with older children. He would never intentionally hurt anyone but his quick movements and playful nature may frighten a smaller child. He has an extremely high prey drive and will most definitely chase a squirel if given the chance so cannot be trusted off leash unless in an enclose area. This being said, he would most likely not do well with a cat in the house nor with a smaller dog. He absolutely loves to play with other dogs and would greatly benefit from having a companion in the house. He is not good in a crate but is completely trustworthy to have free roam when his owner is not home. He behaves really well on the leash and is great in the car. He loves to go for walks/runs and does well running next to me while I'm on a bike. Oh, and did I mention he loves to swim? Basically, whatever you want to do he will be there right next to you ready to go! Dexter may have enough energy to keep up with you no matter what you want to do but he also loves to chill next to you on the couch and just relax. He is the biggest cuddle bug on the planet and absolutely loves to give doggie kisses while you hug and kiss him back! He's such a big teddy bear who will sit still for hours just to let you cuddle with him! Though he is a sweet, cuddly boy with his family, he is also an amazing watch dog! I would call him the quintessential German Shepherd with his intimidating brark and typical Shepherd stance. He loves his family so much that he is very protective of his family and would bring anyone who adopts him peace of mind when he is around!He is one of the most beautiful dogs we've had at the rescue (he is stopped on the street all the time because people want to comment on how handsome he is) and he's quite popular with the furry ladies so you better act fast because this stud is gonna go! Dexter loves being a part of the family and is just looking for a place to belong! Will you be the right home?
