WILEY ~6 months old.  Good with older considerate children, dogs and cats. Needs a companion animal.

GSRA Adoptions to residents of VA, NC, and SC only

Meet Wiley, a super sweet 6 month old mix who was picked up as a stray in a busy parking lot in Fayetteville. We’re still debating exactly what he’s mixed with but some think Shepherd/Husky and some think Shepherd/Rottweiler.   Either way this boy is a gem, he gets along great with all the dogs and people he has met so far. He loves belly rubs as seen at the adoption event, I believe he was on his back more than his feet, he seriously loved the attention.  He is not a hyper puppy at all but he does love to play, he is very respectful with other dogs, I’ve only seen him be submissive to them as well but he can play pretty hard at times. For this reason he will need a canine companion to keep him out of trouble.  We are working on getting him cat tested so more to follow on that.

Now you have to remember Wiley is only 6 months old so still a pup, he LOVES to chew, hopefully he will grow out of that but he loves to chew about anything he can find like boxes, paper, plastic, packing peanuts (yes, really), power cords, etc, you name it. He isn’t bad about chewing furniture but anything else left out is fair game, I’m sure he’d be happy to have clothes, shoes, and toys too but he doesn’t currently have access to those.  He has also become quite the vocalist in the past couple of weeks, not sure if he is learning from his 2 Beagle siblings or what but he has found his voice and he likes to use it, he barks when you talk to him or when he’s excited. He would not do well in an apartment or anywhere that neighbors could hear him barking.  He loves to be outside in the fenced in yard weather permitting, sometimes digs (again the beagles influence), plays keep away with his foster mom (he thinks it’s fun!), and is liable to get into anything he can outdoors. He is just being a curious and mischievous puppy, exactly what everyone loves about them.

He loves to sleep on my feet or underneath me when I’m on the couch, he has gotten on the couch and bed before (rarely) but is almost always content sleeping next to the bed.  I haven’t noticed anything that scares him like loud noises, thunder, brooms, etc, he just seems to be a happy-go-lucky puppy, I think of him as an “old soul” in a young body.  He is quite inquisitive and loves to listen to you talk to him, I swear sometimes he can understand everything I say.  He does need some basic obedience training, he is not great on leash and I’m working to break him of bad habits like counter surfing and trying to steal food. He probably hasn’t had a lot of guidance in his young life but he is getting better.

The good thing is that he is food motivated and pretty smart, a good combination for obedience training. He is still a little nervous about car rides, I don’t imagine he’s had many, but he rides great you just usually have to pick him up and put him in. He may get car sick but hopefully with more time and rides he will get used to the motion and get better, I have already noticed improvement in the short time I’ve had him.

Wiley is both house and crate trained, up to date on vaccines and heartworm preventative, and seems to be in good overall health.  He still needs to be neutered but once that is done he’ll be ready for his forever home!
