DOCTOR LOVE~3 years old.  Good with older considerate children and dogs.  Not good with cats.

GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.

Doctor Love is a 3-year-old GSD mix. Exactly what he’s mixed with is anybody’s guess, but whatever it was combined with his GSD genes to make a smart, playful, confident little bundle of energy.  Doc loves being challenged both physically and mentally and will be up for whatever adventure you have planned.  He'd be an awesome hiking partner or jogging buddy, and if you’re looking for a dog to do some sports training with, Doc would be fabulous at an active sport such as flyball or agility.  Or if Chuck-it fetch in the back yard is more your thing, he will run his little heart out every single time you throw the ball.  And once you’ve become the leader he respects, he’ll bring it back to you and release it easily.  Is swimming on the agenda?  He’s your guy for that, too.

Doc is a truly delightful and endearing dog when he has a leader he respects and trusts, but he doesn’t give that respect away easily—you will have to earn it by being consistent and clear in what you expect of him.

Doc is remarkably good (and playful!) with other medium-to-large dogs.  He lives with three full-size GSDs in his foster home and plays nicely with all of them, easily trading the role of dominant back and forth during the play.  We’ve never tested him with small dogs, but he’d probably be too rough for a dog <30 lbs.  He also has a pretty high prey drive, so no cats or other furry or feathered critters for Doc.  In fact, small rapidly moving *anything* causes him to say “Game ON!”  Since young children often fall into this category, we think he’ll do best in a home without any little ones.

Aside from those caveats, Doc is a pretty easy-going guy in terms of what kind of home he'd fit into. Although he enjoys the company of other dogs, he’s confident enough in his own skin (er, fur) that companions other than his person or family aren’t needed, so he would do fine as the only dog in the home.  And believe it or not, a fenced yard is not essential for this energetic boy. Structured and regular exercise is way more to his liking, so as long as he can be worn out in some way he will be a happy camper. The saying "a tired dog is a happy dog" was probably written for dogs like Doc.

Doctor Love is not a beginner's dog. He will require a human who knows the good, the bad and the ugly of the breeds he is made up of. That said, anyone who is up for the challenge will be richly rewarded by the entertainment and companionship Doc is looking to offer.

Check out Doc’s videos below for a glimpse into what life with this fun-loving boy is like.  Oh, and the unusual name?  We have no idea.  Theories welcome. :-)
