My son got the dog from a professor in Asheville off of Craig's list and named him Barkley. He has been living with my son in Boone while he attended college. When the dog came home for a visit I took him to the vet for a check up and to get on preventative heartworm, flea and tick medication. He has a problem with one back leg that causes him to limp when he walks at times, but I did not want to spend the money to have an x-ray done to diagnose his leg. Barkley has lived with two other dogs and several cats over the course of his time in Boone. Now that my son has graduated, he and Barkley are living with my husband and I in a house in Charlotte. My son is working full time and has accepted a teaching position in China that begins in March. Although sweet, Barkley is too high an energy to be a good match for me and my husband. He does not walk well on a leash and needs a fully fenced backyard to be safe. He is very protective and growl s and barks at anyone in sight, people or animals. He has lived with other dogs and cats in the past, but growls and barks at our neighbor's small dogs through the fence so will need to be evaluated with potential new friends. My son used to walk with him off leash and took Barkley on hikes. He stays with us off leash when there is a toy involved. He loves to play fetch, but wants to play all the time. He is very sweet and loving.
