OSCAR  ~1 year old.  Good with dogs.  Not good with kids or cats.

GSRA Adopts in VA, NC, and SC ONLY

Young, lanky, fun-loving guy seeking active family for a lifetime of fun!

I am a 1 year old lad of mixed breed heritage: part GSD, part hound, part golden retriever, part  Uzbekistan Torkuz (.... ok, ok, so maybe that last one is a stretch). I love long walks with my peeps, MMA wrestling with my foster bro Spider and cold nights snuggled up to my seriously adorable (and patient) Foster Mama. I've learned all my household p's and q's and am proud to say I am both house and crate trained. I'm what they call a "low maintenance" kind of man, just give me a couch to curl up on and a yard to practice my moves in and I am a happy camper. I take border patrol seriously and am one of the first in my pack to alert the family when there is someone in the proximity of our yard. I have what Mama calls a "big boy bark", which convinces her that there really is some GSD in me, despite my cute, boyish (read: houndish) looks. My favorite thing in life is to play; I play in the morning, I play in the afternoon and I play in the evening. I prefer playing with my Foster bro Spider (also up for adoption, hint, hint) but if he's not around I can easily entertain myself. I am looking for an equally fun-loving adult human with whom I can share all my spare time. I'll be frank here, I need a human who's in control - no one wants me making decisions for myself, trust me! As far as the perfect home, I am looking for an active person or couple who have another active dog who loves to play. A fenced in yard is a must as I have a ton of energy. No kids and no cats please - from first hand experience I can tell you neither of those creatures understand me! Most of all, I need people who have a good sense of humor and love to laugh. I am a goofball, through and through, and my mission in life is to make you laugh. If you think you might be the match for me, let the good people at GSRA know!

From Oscar's foster Mom: Oscar is a canine toddler. He is playful, sweet and tries oh so hard to be a good boy. At the same time though, he has a lot to learn about socializing, has a tough time accepting things when he doesn't get his own way and has a hard time focusing sometimes. He is really just like a puppy in a grown dog's body! He still mouths, but is learning this isn't appropriate, and he sometimes gets silly and has to be calmed down. But he is ALL heart and has a true enthusiasm for life that makes you smile whenever you are with him. He has come along in leaps and bounds since coming into our home. He has mastered crate training, house training, leash training and sit and down. He is exceptionally good at listening to commands, even when it means dragging him away from something he really, really wants to do (like pestering another dog!!). He gets along with all the dogs in our home (4 other males and a female) and was quick to work out who wanted to play with him and who wanted to be left alone. His best buddy though is his GSRA foster brother Spider (another funny looking GSD - check out his page on the GSRA web site!!). Spider has taught Oscar the finer points of play and, as a result, Oscar plays very, very rough - though always fair. He's going to need an equally athletic and enthusiastic buddy in his new home as he has a lot of energy to burn. Oscar has a sweet innocence about him that is completely endearing. He's still got some things to learn, but is well on his way to being an awesome addition to the right home. Oscar is not for the beginner dog owner. He needs a fair, confident leader who will guide him in the ways of the world. He gets nervous around new people and dogs and will bark and growl as a way of asking for space. Once he is comfortable with people (or dogs) though he is a complete goof. Oscar is really a wonderful, dear little man.  He came from uncertain beginnings and has blossomed into a true character who is so much fun to have around.
