German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Female (not spayed, but will be before adoption) : : Young
~ 3 months old. Good with older considerate children, dogs and cats.
Meet little miss Elke. She is a beautiful 3 month old sable.
Elke was dropped anonymously at a Good Samaritan’s house 2 weeks ago. The Good Samaritan knew someone who knew a GSRA volunteer. Elke moved the next day to my house with my three adult GSRA Alum and my other foster Kimble.
Elke made herself right at home. She introduced herself to Patty, the ultimate alpha and Patty tried to teach her Lesson #1: don’t mess with me. I don’t think Elke has learned yet; she still tries to play with Patty. But Elke is probably one of the smartest pups that has spent time here at the Puppy Palace.
Elke has very quickly learned the routines here, especially learning that it’s smart to always check to see what’s in her crate. If she is to spend time in the crate, there will be food or treats in there to entice her.
Elke also goes outside to do her business. She is crate & house trained. Elke ‘sits’ when told to.
Elke is a typical GSD pup. If you leave stuff on the floor, she will find it & chew it. She especially likes my favorite crocs. She likes to play with her older foster sis, Kimble. Elke likes to chase after much faster Kimble. And Elke likes to try to bite & wrestle with Kimble. Elke is starting to play fetch.
I think the ideal family for Elke is one that will be devoted to training her & playing with her. She has great potential to be an outstanding family member. I know she would do well with other dogs, but I think she would do well as an only dog, if she is given the attention she needs.
Elke is up to date on vaccinations. She needs to be spayed in a month or two, which GSRA will take care of.
As I do with all my pups, I highly recommend that Elke & her adoptive family attend Obedience classes.
It is GSRA policy that pups under the age of one year not be adopted to families with children under the age of eight.
