German Shepherd Dog / Mastiff / Mixed (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Young : : Large
~6 months old. Good with older considerate children and dogs. Cats TBD. UPDATE: Sammy is still a happy-go-lucky puppy but she can be nervous and unsure in new environments, especially when her foster brothers aren't around. She seems to do much better with a companion animal. Once she has a chance to settle in and relax she quickly goes back to her playful puppy ways. She has also proven herself to be a barker - which is good and bad! Her bark is incredibly loud for her size and once she's full grown I'm sure it will be even more impressive. But she has a tendency to sit at the front door/windows and bark at almost anything so she still needs work with that. Her leash skills also need work, and if she's out without her foster brothers she's much more reactive to people and dogs (no aggression, just unsure and nervous), but if you're patient and firm with her she will settle down. Sammy is great at playing fetch and learned quickly to bring the ball back. She's got a great work drive and would really excel in obedience, tracking, agility, etc. Sammy is total sweetheart, just watch out for that tail when it gets wagging, it's like a whip!
March 2013 Sammy is a very confident girl who isn’t fazed by much. She’s currently living with two big GSD foster brothers and wasted no time making herself a part of the pack. She LOVES LOVES LOVES to play with her big brothers and has proved herself to be a rough-and-tumble kinda gal. She does not try to be bossy or pushy with them but can definitely hold her own. They have been very patient with her and she’s quickly learning how to behave appropriately around dogs. She’s taken to crate training very well and enjoys napping in her ‘den’, although she is very vocal when she wants/needs to get out (for such a tiny thing she is LOUD!). She’s also starting to get the hang of housetraining and we’ve learned how she reacts right before she’s gotta go, but being so young there are still occasional accidents. She loves to curl up on top of your feet when you’re cooking, working, etc. And perhaps one of her more endearing traits is when she joins her foster brothers in howling at passing sirens. Sammy’s ideal family would have another dog, someone who is home frequently or has a flexible schedule, as well as an active family who can help her burn off all that puppy energy. Sammy is a GSD/mastiff mix so she has the potential to become a large, powerful dog and will need a family that is committed to early, as well as continued, socialization and training. So if you’re up for life with an energetic, fearless, happy-go-lucky girl, Sammy would love to meet you!
