~5 years old. Good with older considerate children, dogs and cats. Good for elderly/seniors. Apartment appropriate. Hi! My name is Carli and life has not been too good to me up until two weeks ago. I am the only one to know what I have been through and the neglect I have experienced, but I can tell you my luck is changing! A couple of weeks ago I was in a shelter. My eyes hurt so much and I chewed the skin on my butt and tail pretty good till the hair fell off. I was very dirty and I felt really sick. So, here I am in this shelter with cold hard floors and lots of other dogs who were barking and crying. I was pretty scared, lonely, sick, and confused. People came to the shelter and just walked by me until this one woman came and flashed bright lights in my eyes. She talked to me and told me it was going to be OK. "What did she know," I thought. She wasn't the one in this scary place with lots of noise all alone. A couple of days later, she came back and put me on a leash. I was feeling very sick, so I didn't care where she took me as long it was OUT of this place! She told me she was going to call me Carli and she put me in the back of this big car and we went for a little ride. We went into this building and we went into this room where some people came in to take a look at me. I just wanted to feel better. The man there poked me a few times which only hurt a little and then he talked to the woman who took me from the shelter. Finally, we got out of there and we went for another ride. We ended up at this woman's house and the first thing she did was to take me upstairs and put me in a big bowl and turned on the water. I was feeling dirty, tired, scared, and sick and I just wanted to rest and have some quiet. The woman told me her name was Mommy and she was giving me a bath. Well, I cannot tell you how long it's been since I had one of those or if I ever did, but I can tell you that it felt good to have all the dirt and stink roll off my body. Mommy talked to me while she washed me and it felt so good to get clean, I even turned around in the big bowl twice for her so she could wash both sides of me. The bath helped my skin feel better and then she took me down stairs and got a some kind of thing that blew warm air all over me. Wow, did it feel good to be clean! Then I got to meet 5 other dogs who look like me. They are all pretty nice and much to my surprise, there is even a cat here. Mommy put something in my eyes to make them feel better and she introduced me to Daddy! He is really nice and I'm pretty sweet on him. He has a nice voice and says sweet things to me. Later that night, I got to sleep in a room where Mommy and Daddy sleep along with all the other dogs. I slept in a very large crate with a clean warm blanket and I slept really good. A nice quiet night and now I get to eat all the food I want and drink all the fresh clean water I want too. Mommy and Daddy are very nice to me and give me hugs and tell me what a pretty girl I am. I am so glad Mommy ca me to get me that day. This place is a great place to hang out and Mommy has been giving me some pills which she hides in some food. She thinks I don't know what's going on but I DO! My eyes are better and my skin is too and I am very sweet and kind to everyone here. Mommy says that she and Daddy will find me my very own place with people who will love me as much as her and Daddy do and that I will have a very good life from now on. Mommy promised and I believe her! Note from Mommy: Carli is a super sweet girl and she is very grateful to be here with us in a safe and loving place. She has been through a lot, but she is feeling and looking so much better than she did two weeks ago. She is a love BUG and loves to be petted and talked to. She has done well with our pack of 5 and has even given kitty a kiss or two. She is gentle and affectionate and would be great fit for someone who does not have a very active lifestyle. She is content to just hang out and she is completely house trained. The people who dropped her off at the shelter claimed she was a stray, but somehow they knew she was spayed. When I first saw Carli, she looked to be 10 years old or older and was pretty pitiful. It broke my heart to see a girl look as bad as she obviously felt. It is amazing how some TLC can bring a dog back to health. She was pretty dehydrated for the first couple of days she was here and I think that had a lot to do with what was going on with her eyes . She had a secondary skin infection from all the chewing, but the antibiotics have cleared her up pretty good. Her eyes are still a little goopy, but they get better every day. I have been flushing them out with a over the counter eyewash too. She is a super sweet girl and we want her to go to a home where she will be loved and cherished for the rest of her life. I did promise her that, so if you are that person, please come see her and she will steal your heart like she has ours. We are so blessed to be able to have saved her and bring her back to health. We are looking forward to meeting the people who will write the rest of Carli's story and we know they will be as special as she is. I have included her picture from when she was in the shelter and then pics from this weekend.
