Boy do we have an awesome dog for you! Her name is Sonya and she’s in the 2-3 year old range and as sweet as they come. Sonya came from a rural shelter in SC about 6-8 weeks ago where she was turned in by her owners who couldn’t figure out why she kept getting pregnant! Go figure, that’s what happens when you get a dog and let her run the streets all the time. Well, there won’t be any more pups in Sonya’s future unless she adopts them, she’s awesome with puppies though, very gentle and motherly, I’m sure she’s had a lot of practice. Now you might be thinking to yourself that she’s absolutely perfect, in a way she is, but I don’t think Sonya was socialized with people very well so she’s timid and shy around new people especially. This poor girl spent her first two days in the rescue staying outside because she refused to let me catch her, thankfully I have a large secure yard so it was only a matter of time before I was able to get her to trust me enough to come inside the house. She has come a very long way from those first two days, she will come inside now and knows that’s the only way she’ll get dinner.  Once she got into a routine she’s been great although she still stays outside all day long (she refuses to come inside!) but will come in at night. She’s started to understand how comfortable the couch can be, how much fun it is to be loved on and get belly rubs from her foster mom and actually relax with the pack. She is so gentle and soft-hearted and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She gets along great with other dogs and will need an adoptive home with at least another dog her size for companionship and to play with. She is more trusting of other dogs than people and I imagine without another dog she may not cope well. She also needs a secure back yard to play in, since she can be hard to catch and is somewhat apprehensive on a leash, she is also pretty good at slipping a collar LOL
Now I’m not trying to scare you off but you will have to have the right setup and lots of patience for this girl, once she trusts her owner she’s more social with visitors, too.  Still cautious but more open to letting them love on her and her them. She rides in a car great and the few times we’ve been to the vet she’s been an angel.   She’s a challenge to get inside the office (what dog isn’t right?) but she let the vet touch her all over, give her shots, listen to her heart etc without moving. You can really tell someone let this girl down at some point because she wants to trust people so badly! I haven’t been able to test Sonya with cats so I’m not sure what she would do, she seems ok with my smaller 50lbs dog and was great with a visiting pup but as you know cats can bring out “the dark side” in some dogs. Sonya also needs a home without young children, it’s not that she’s mean but being timid the activity level may be too much for her, I’d suggest teenagers or older. I do feel that Sonya will get better over time but it may take months and she may not ever completely trust people she doesn’t know, so if you want a dog that can go to the dog park or that is overly social she’s not your gal. However if you want a complete love bug with the most gentle soul that will adore you for the rest of her life then maybe she is for you!
