Sophie is a 14 week old (date of birth 5/15/2011) German Shepherd puppy, surrendered by her breeder after she developed rear leg deformities. Sophie has been examined by an orthopedic specialist and she is believed to have a non degenerative problem affecting only her rear legs (see www.straightlegshepherds.org for more information). Other straight leg shepherds adapt well and live high quality, normal length lives.

Sophie is currently not able to stand on her rear legs but is getting stronger with daily rehabilitation. She should soon be able to stand, walk and eventually run and play as other straight leg shepherds do. Before being rescued Sophie lived outside and is not yet housebroken. She is crate trained and travels well. Sophie gets along well with other dogs and loves people, she has not been tested with cats or children.
