Date Posted: 8-15-11 Suki is a female bi-colored German Shepherd (black with tan paws and white chest) who is around 4 years old and weighs 60 pounds. She is spayed, microchipped, current on all shots, and crate trained. She successfully completed obedience training and enjoys practicing sit, stay, down, and wait. For a dog her size, she is relatively low-energy and happy to go on a short walk each day or play briefly with her owner in the yard. She walks best with a harness and lots of positive rewards as she can become anxious when encountering other dogs on leash. Suki is a veteran of dog parks and day care where she enjoys off-leash play and an occasional swim--she does well with other dogs in these situations. She has been living for 2 and 1/2 years with two smaller dogs, and we had to introduce the second dog slowly for Suki to feel comfortable. Mostly, she enjoys being where people are. As a guardian breed, she is content lying at the entry of the room wher e her people are working, or even lying at their feet or with her head on her owner's lap. Because she has shown food aggression and because change can make her anxious, Suki would function best as the only dog in the family. She is gentle with children of all ages from infants to teens. Due to the close proximity and noise of apartment living, Suki would do best living in a house with a yard. She would be the perfect companion for someone living alone or someone who works out of their home.
