This irresistable heartthrob is 11 month old shep mix, Ruthie! She is a sensitive and comical "girlie-girl" who is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the out. Ruthie loves life and lives each day to the fullest. She loves to explore, frolic, stretch, bounce and bask in the sunshine. She will lay in a comfy sunny spot for hours after play-time, just like a human girl indulging in a day at the beach. You can't help but smile watching her join herself. She SO deserves it after all she has been through. Ms. Ruthie was rescued from the very high kill Bladen County Shelter in Elizabethtown, NC a couple of months ago. The lovely woman who reached out to help Ruthie did so at the request of her elderly foster friend who saw Ruthie's one-of-a-kind face and fell in love (understandable...Ruthie is outrageously charming). Tragically, the foster is suffering from a terminal illness and many of the dogs she was caring for have recently been transferred over to her friend Deb's home. Deb did not really have the space for Ruthie, but in typical Deb fashion, she turned her world upside down to make a temporary spot for Ruthie. Since that time, Deb has had a number of other dogs dumped on her by irresponsible owners, and this poor woman needs our help placing dogs urgently. She cannot continue caring for this many animals on her own. Poor Deb is exhausted to the point that she is feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Please help me place one of the easier dogs...Ruthie! Ruthie deserves her forever family and Deb is broken-hearted that she does not have the manpower or hours in the day to network effectively after her ridiculously long days working full-time and also caring for 20+ large breed dogs. I have yet to meet a person so selfless and compassionate. If she is asking for help...trust me, she REALLY needs it. So here we go! Here is the 411 on fantastic Ms. Ruthie: This doll baby is spayed, vaccinated and heartworm negative. Yay! She gets along with other dogs and does O.K. with cats, too (she will follow them around, but seems to just want to smell them!). Ruthie is an abuse survivor and, as a result, she can be a little standoffish until she gets to know you. She wants to know she can trust you and that you won't hurt her. With continuing one-on-one love and kisses, she is going to blossom quickly and she will make a wonderful pet! She is the type that warms up as soon as she understands that she isn't about to get smacked :-( Ruthie is bored and really wants to play. She is tired of laying around and wants to get out and explore the world! She will need a home with a high fence because athletic + bored = Ruthie adventures around the neighorhood. We are very worried at the moment because Ruthie is getting out of her current fence sporatically and her next door neighbor is a crotchety old hunter who would rather shoot a dog than help catch her. It is imperative that we get her to safety now or she WILL NOT SURVIVE. Ruthie has a hysterical personality. She's the penultimate clown. Whenever someone goes to retrieve her, Ruthie lays down, turns over on her back and looks up like a diva as if to say "but I'm a princess...aren't you going to CARRY me to our destination?!?!" She will turn into a happy, kissy wiggleworm when you throw her up on your shoulder and then carry "the princess" like a sack of potatoes. LOL. It's her faaaavorite. When Deb told me about this quirky game of hers, we were both laughing so hard. Evidently, Ruthie is quite the Sarah Bernhardt! Ruthe eats with other dogs and has exhibited no food aggression. She would do well with older children (8-10 and up) who would hug her and dote on her. She would probably even enjoy some "dress up" games. Most importantly, Ruthie needs a family that is gentle and patient enough to let her warm up. She does not care for loud noises or yelling. Hey, I don't blame her! PLEASE help me get Ruthie safely into a rescue program/forever home! She is the brightest light and once you meet her, you will never want to be without her in your presence. Deb hates to see her leave because she has so much personality, but Ruthie is in a dangerous situation now and she has been without a family for long enough. Help her find hers, won't you?
