(9 months)Please meet Fiona. We've had her for about a month now. She is a wonderful 9 month old GSD pup. She was owner surrendered to the local shelter along with 3 other dogs when her "family" decided to "clean house of all their pets." She was emaciated - she weighed 50 lbs and should really weigh about 65 for her size. She came down with an upper respiratory infection that first week and slipped down to 47. We syringe-fed her for a couple of days when she stopped eating but then she started to perk up and she hasn't stopped eating since. She is now well past her snottiness and coughing, too. We've had her on a raw high-cal diet and she is now up to 55lbs and going strong. You can still see her bony hips and ribs and she still needs more fattening up but she is filling out nicely. She had the very thin coarse coat of a malnourished dog but that is finally starting to thicken up and shine. She does have a small marble-sized subcutaneous c yst on her right cheek. My vet has checked this out and says it is nothing to worry about and just to keep an eye on it.

She is a fearless girl and approaches all people and dogs. She wants to play, play, play. She does do those little flea bite nibbles on my arm that hurt like the dickens and we are working on that. She gets along great with my whole pack - knows to leave the big senior alpha dogs alone and knows the game is on with my younger two. We have lots of chase games out in the yard throughout the day and lots of roly-poly games inside. She would love another young dog to play with. She does have her quiet, contemplative moments, too. She likes to stretch out right in the middle of the yard and survey her domain. I have a feeling that she will be a nice noble, medium energy girl when she's full grown. I've never had a single accident in the house with her even though I know she must have been an outside dog before - she had the telltale flybite dermatitis on her the tips of her ears. We crate her at night and when I go out and she's gotten the hang of that. She has the LONG EST tail I have ever seen on a GSD! It totally cracks me up and makes me think of the Flying Monkeys from the Wizard of Oz. Her Foster Dad calls her "Miss Monkeytail". We also call her "Peanut Butter Pants"....well for obvious reasons. :)
