German Shepherd Dog : : Male (neutered) : : Young : : Large
Ronnie is one of the sweetest male GSDs we've had the pleasure of fostering over the years. He is loving, calm, and happy, yet secure enough in his own skin to go lay down after some attention. He doesn't seem to know much in the way of commands but he doesn't exhibit any behavior that really needs "training." Our 10 year old is teaching him to sit for his breakfast and dinner, and he doesn't even pull on the leash one bit! Ronnie is house-trained and also crate-trained. He sleeps in the crate at night and when we're not home, but primarily because we don't quite trust him yet with the cats. I've attached a picture to show that he is "good" with cats, but when he first arrived he REALLY wanted to eat one! Now, after only two weeks, he totally understands that feline snacks are not an option, and for the most part he sniffs, nibbles, looks at one of us, and moves on. However, if your home has cats, you'd need to be kind of cat/dog smart because Ronnie still would like to taste one if he thought he could get away with it :-) Overall, Ronnie is simply wonderful with children. Our three daughters ages 10, 7, and 5, cuddle with him, rub him all over, give him kisses, and he gives them back! I trust him 100% with children, always understanding that we never leave dogs unsupervised with children in general. He is also very good with our two dogs, a golden and a cocker. As Ronnie is becoming more comfortable in our home, he is trying to be the dominant guy, but our two are so laid back they really don't mind. He isn't obnoxious about it and would probably fit into any dog family with ease. Ronnie isn't aggressive about his food, and while he loves a good chew bone (he even swiped his own out of the pantry the other day!), he'll let me take it right from his mouth and he doesn't growl at the other dogs either. Ronnie is truly a wonderful GSD, though a bit on the small side for a male. He is not high-spirited so he's perfect for a family or a single person wanting companionship. I wouldn't think he'd much enjoy high energy activities such as running or eventing, but I think he would thoroughly enjoy and adapt to just about anything else. He even rides nicely in the car! If you're looking for a nearly perfect GSD with the good looks and protective nature of this special breed, you need to come and meet Ronnie. You, of course, need to be close to perfect too, as our girls are going to be very particular about who gets to adopt him :-) More about RonnieGood with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids Current Scheduled Events:
