German Shepherd Dog : : Male (neutered) : : Senior : : Medium
8-10 yrs old
Howdy folks....Stevie here... Named after the great legend himself Stevie Wonder. I've never met him personally, but Foster Mom says that I do this little head bob thing just like him. What can I say?
I can't see all that great up close and I've got to move my head around a bit to get that perfect angle on stuff. And of course I've got that signature Stevie grin! This place where I'm chillin now is great...let me tell you, but a couple weeks ago, I was starting to think that life wasn't much worth livin' anymore!
You see, my people packed me up in the car and took me for a ride. I was excited to ride in the car, but I couldn't quite figure out where we were going and why they were telling me "Bye". But I guessed that I had worked hard these past 8 to 10 years to make my people happy, to always be there when they needed me, to protect them from the bad things in the world, and it was finally time for me to settle down and retire. But what I didn't understand was why this "retirement home" was filled with lots of barking dogs and a cold cement floor. How did I end up at this place they called a "shelter"?? I started to wonder if maybe I hadn't done a good job or I had let them down. I was there for several days and I just figured that this was it, until this nice lady came and visited with me. She kneeled down beside me and gently stroked my head and told me that this was NO retirement home for me! She said that I deserved better and that she would show me a retirement that most dogs could only dream about.... So, here I am now... livin it up in the lap of luxury. Who woulda ever thunk it!? I've got a nice little girl here who strokes my head and keeps me company during my naptime. I've got a couple canine buddies that I chum around with. We don't play much but I really like the companionship. There's a cat here but I try to stay clear of her.. she can be a bit moody sometimes so I just let her do her own thing! I lead a pretty simple life, but I LOVE to go for a walk! That's my fave thing to do around here. Just a nice little stroll around the block is awesome! My old man hips aren't what they used to be but a simple pain pill a day and those walks are really whipping me back into shape. At my age, I've tasted all the yummy things out there and I can be quite picky when it comes to meal time. My foster mom does a good job of finding me yummy things to eat...that boring dog food just doesn't cut it for me! While I've been with my foster mom, she's had lots of folks over and everyone who meets me just thinks I'm great. Who would have thought that so many people would like an old man like me. They say that its so nice to have a dog to just hang out with, who's not real needy, and isn't all bouncy and crazy like those younger pups. They say I have the sweetest eyes and most adorable "Eeyore face". I'm not really sad, but its just my way of chillin out. Putting on a smilin face all the time is overated! And I bet you've never seen a German Shepherd without a tail! I honestly think it gives me character! Don't hate on the nub tail...I don't knock stuff off the coffee table with my tail like my crazy canine siblings do! I'm hoping that one of these days, there's going to be a guest over to the house that falls in love with me and wants to take me home to live with them forever. Foster mom's place is nice, but I sure would love a forever home of my very own. So...anyone out there lookin for a cool dude like me?
