FINN ~3 years old. Good with dogs and cats. Kids TBD. Needs a companion animal.
GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.
Finn was found as a stray, wandering around with a lead still attached to his neck — likely because he lived outside tied up. He decided that the world had too much to offer to live a life of constraint and loneliness, and so he began his journey. Despite what he's been through, he is a trusting, easygoing, affectionate boy who loves all people, dogs and cats.
His personality is multi-faceted in all the best ways. He lives harmoniously alongside his much older foster brother and sister, but a doggie brother or sister who likes to play is vital for his development, confidence, and happiness. For now, Finn entertains himself with a good chew bone, his giant tennis ball, or the rolling ball that he has learned to manipulate for pieces of kibble.
Coming into the rescue with no proper indoor living experience, he had no concept of house training. But Finn is a smart boy, and he quickly conquered potty training. So far, he has not tolerated being crated, but he is trustworthy in the house for a few hours while his humans are away - as long as there is another dog in the house who remains calm when left alone. Finn would be best suited for a family who is home a lot of the time.
Even though a fenced yard would be an asset, Finn would do OK without one as long as he has opportunities to burn energy off-leash. His leash behavior is coming along, albeit with some pulling that he is working on. The great thing about Finn is that he is easily redirected while on a leash and takes correction humbly and without the slightest hint of retaliation. Off leash, however, (say, in the house), his recall needs improvement, and his fosters are trying new techniques to help him learn.
He takes treats and meals politely, knows basic commands, and is trying his hardest to acquire new tricks (his food motivation helps!) While he loves to play and gets a daily case of the zoomies, he also happily curls up on the couch, dog bed (or human bed) for an afternoon nap while cuddling his beloved stuffed octopus, "Octy." Finn has a goofy side that will entertain you, an intelligent side that will impress you, and a sweet side that will warm your heart.
