BANDIT ~6 years old. Good with kids and dogs. Cats TBD..

Please say hello to Bandit! But, be careful because Bandit is a thief of hearts!!! AND he is full of surprises! This endearing little man first stole our hearts when we met him in the shelter as an apparently elderly, arthritic, very sick dog with hair loss and signs of long-term skin infections. Fast-forward a few weeks, and (surprise!!) he’s emerged as playful, friendly, middle-aged boy who only needed a boost to his thyroid. Once he was started on a thyroid supplement his coat began filling in and all signs of arthritis disappeared—he hadn’t been in pain, he simply had zero energy. He also started acting years younger. And although he did have skin and ear infections, both problems have responded beautifully to treatment and Bandit is now a healthy, happy, playful boy who has never met a stranger—his tail is constantly wagging as he contemplates who he’ll meet next.

Bandit is housetrained and very comfortable in a crate—often going to his crate for naps, even when the door is open. He doesn’t have much obedience to speak of (foster mom has been slack about this!) but walks easily on-leash and enjoys going for walks. Car rides are still new for him but over the past few weeks he’s progressed from having to be picked up and entirely lifted into the car to trying to get there on his own and just needing a little boost on the back end—another few outings and we think he’ll have mastered the concept of the running start to get in on his own. :-)

Bandit is great with people and dogs of all sizes but probably comes on a little fast for timid or reactive dogs. He’s a medium energy guy who enjoys walks and hikes but he’s also happy to hang with you all day as your remote-work partner. He enjoys children but at the moment is as mouthy as an overgrown puppy so his interactions with children aged 10 and younger should be supervised.

Bandit will require a twice-daily thyroid supplement for his entire life, with occasional testing to see if the dose needs to be adjusted, but this is an inexpensive medication and should not be a barrier to adoption. Because really, once he’s stolen your heart, what choice do you have?
