Are you ready to have some fun with a funny, enthusiastic, and very attentive German Shepherd? Are you looking for a classic beauty that will be totally devoted to you? If so, keep reading, Miss Iggy is getting ready to find her forever home!
Iggy is a stunning black and cream female. She is about 3 years old. Iggy is super people friendly...she adores people, and enjoys attention from her humans. Iggy has had a rough few months...she was picked up as a stray in a rural area. She was very thin and malnourished. Her coat was very brittle, she had a pretty bad skin infection, and the tips of her ears were most likely bitten by horse flies due to being tied-up outdoors. The shelter started feeding her several times a day, but to their dismay, Iggy continued to lose weight. After a week or so, they took her to the Vet since something was not right. The shelter reached out to rescue since they knew she would need some help.
Iggy has been diagnosed with EPI, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. Basically, her pancreas does not makes the enzymes required for her to digest her food. Fortunately, this is a condition that is easily managed....she just has to have an enzyme powder added to each meal. It is a lifelong commitment. Once it was determined that this was the problem, Iggy started to improve! She is being fed twice a day, and is finally looking healthy! She went from 42 pounds up to her current ideal weight of 77 pounds.
Iggy is a fun girl! She loves to run and play, and is very athletic. She really enjoys playing ball or fetching a stick. She is like a gazelle when she runs....very smooth and fluid. She is much more enthusiastic now that she is feeling better. All she wants is to be near her people. She knows the basic commands of sit, stay, down, shake, come, leave-it and is eager to continue learning. Iggy takes verbal correction easily, and does not like to be screamed at. Iggy has a good bit of energy, and LOVES to run and stretch her legs, and would really prefer a home with a fenced yard! Iggy is EXTREMELY food motivated! This is to be expected based on what she went through....she should be easy to train as she will do anything for a treat! While she was sick and a stray, it is presumed that she was trying to eat anything she could, as she was basically slowly starving to death. She was like an alligator when taking treats from your fingertips, but now with an "easy" command, she is getting to be very gentle. However, because of her intense food drive, it is recommended that she not go to a home with small children as she would probably be too rough for them.
Iggy is a typical German Shepherd in terms of devotion! She will follow you everywhere, and will watch you intently with her super intense eyes. It is like she is trying to read your mind!
Iggy is crate trained and housebroken and she would do best as an only dog. She initially seemed to be a bit dominant and overly assertive towards other dogs, but she is doing well on walks with another neighborhood dog. It is all good, Iggy says she has more than enough love and enthusiasm to keep her forever family well entertained!
Iggy was heartworm positive but after treatment has now been confirmed as being heartworm negative in October 2019.
So, do you think Iggy might be the one for you?? If so, please come and meet her. She is going to be a great addition to some lucky family.
