MASON ~4 years old.  Good with older considerate children and dogs.  Cats TBD.

GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only

Tall, dark, single guy looking for the home of his dreams. Likes long walks in the park, lounging on hale bales, playing tug and simply hanging out with his human. Not for the inexperienced operator!!!! This guy loves to push the limits and comes on strong. He needs someone willing to take him by the paw and show him that "less is more" when it comes to attitude. For the right person though, this guy is the total package: brain s, brawn and a really solid "sit" game.

Introducing Mason - a dashingly handsome 4 year old GSD in need of a special home. Mason is a strong guy who has, thus far, been able to use his size and bark to hold perceived threats at bay. Those threats include men, unknown objects and other dogs. To help him overcome his insecurities, we sent Mason to a trainer who is experienced with GSDs and who has been slowly helping Mason build self confidence. Turns out, underneath all his bluff and bluster is a funny, playful, energetic boy who just needed someone to show him that the big, wide world isn't that scary after all.

When Mason finishes boarding school he will be ready to find his forever home. This home will be with an experienced GSD owner who will be willing to work with Mason's trainer so as to continue Mason's journey to become a well-mannered part of canine society. Mason is a very powerful boy who is also as smart as a whip. He will need someone able to stand up to his wiley charms and not be fooled into letting Mason's obedience slip. Mason is TERRIBLE at making decisions for himself. Therefore, he needs a human who will take the lead and look out for him: giving him an outlet for his energy but also for his brain.

Mason would do best as an only dog. He can get along with other dogs but he is a bit pushy and not all dogs are willing to put up with that. Mason LOVES people (especially women) and would be absolutely fine as the only dog in the home as long as his exercise and intellectual needs are met. Mason tends to play a lot with his mouth (he is quite gentle though) thus we are looking for a home with either older children or no children. Mason thinks cats are incredibly fun to chase, so no kitties in his forever home please.

If you would like to be considered as a potential forever home for Mason, please send an email to gsrarescue@gmail.com explaining briefly your experience with dogs like Mason and your reason for wanting to add Mason to your family. Anyone meeting the criteria for a match with Mason will then be invited to fill out an adoption application.

Mason is not a dog for everyone. He is a smart, powerful dog who will test boundaries. However, for that special person who is willing to continue with Mason's training and has experience with dealing with these kinds of dogs he will be a once in a lifetime dog. Everyone in the rescue adores him and wants the very best for him. We look forward to hearing from you.
