GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only

Hi, Everyone! My name is Stewie and I'm so excited to be here looking for my new family! I'm a 63 pound, 6 year old boy that was picked up by animal control for loitering in a fast food parking lot. I was starving! You'd think they would have cut me some slack. I was just helping the staff clean the parking lot after all... I mean, have you smelled the food? How can anyone resist it?! I'm not trying to catch a break, but I can't tell you how long it had been since I had had a proper meal. The shelter staff saw how emaciated I was and reached out to the wonderful folks at GSRA to see if they could take me. I don't know what emaciated means, but foster mom says that my skin was hanging from my spine and ribs when she met me.
I'm so lucky that this is all behind me now! I wasn't sure where I was going to go when I left the shelter, but man, this is great! Thanks to GSRA, I get good quality food on the regular, a warm bed to sleep in, a safe place in my very own bedroom, play time outside and my own toys and foster brothers. I like other dogs but foster mom says I play too roughly with them sometimes. She says my jumping all over them is dominant behavior so she is teaching me how to be more gentlemanly. I hope she's not reading this because, even though you can't see me, I'm making the biggest eye roll right now.
I think foster mom is really impressed with me, though. I'm proud to say that I'm crate trained, housebroken and even know basic commands like sit and shake. I do pull on leash but foster mom is working with me on that, too. She says it helps that I'm treat and toy motivated. I take them very gently, too! I'm currently finishing up medicine for ear and skin infections and, I must say, receive it very well. I also have hookworms which I'm being treated for. I don't know what the big deal is because I can't tell I have them. I think that's why foster mom picks up my stinkies every time we go outside.
As far as my hobbies go, I LOVE playing fetch and will always bring the ball back to you. I also love having a chew toy around. I like going for walks and am trying my hand at surfing... well, counter surfing. I remind my foster mom how much I like to help her cook but she's not having it. Needless to say, she's refreshing my manners in that department, too. (I'm rolling my eyes again, if you hadn't guessed.) Want to know another cool thing about me? I do GREAT during thunderstorms and have not been destructive at all in my new digs at any time. I think foster mom is really impressed with how quiet I am. I really haven't barked much since I've been here. I also haven't tried to test the boundaries of the fenced in backyard. I pretty much do my business and want to go back in the house. How can you blame me?! There's air conditioning in there!!
I almost forgot to mention that I love all people. I am friendly meeting new people and like them even more if they offer me treats. I think I would do best in a home with older children because I get so excited sometimes that I might actually knock a little one over. Even though I'm grateful for my foster mom and fur brothers, I would really love a permanent home of my own. Could it be you? Love, Stewie

PLEASE NOTE: Stewie is still being treated for some ear and skin infections and will not be placed in a forever home until he is medically cleared.  Any potential adopter must be willing to wait.
