Zoey is a sweet, 6yr old German shepherd mix. She was originally found with her sisters on the side of the road. She was taken home by a family with 4 kids under 5 until they realized they couldn’t handle all of the little guys, and they were owner-surrendered at the local pound. We know now that she’s ok with older children (probably 7/8 and older) that understand how to respect her space, but she’s not a fan of small children. She only ever has had a problem when we’ve had kids over who scream and run around rather uncontrollably, and she barks and hides in her crate. She has nipped at a friend who reached into her crate to pet her (she felt cornered and he admitted he knew better). We just had our first child a few months ago, and I plan on teaching him how to be respectful of animals, but I know that won’t happen overnight. We’ve worked with trainers, and we’ve been advised that rehoming her in a home without small children would probably be best for her. She is a cuddle, and she loves nothing more than to just lay around and snuggle. She is good in public and usually warms up to people after a few minutes. She is house, crate, and leash trained. She knows basic commands, and she’s an excellent traveler (we’ve made the 15hr drive home several times, and she just naps in the back seat the whole way). She has no real medical history, just routine vaccinations. She was spayed and microchipped right after she was rescued.
