Meet Ninja a stunning 16 month old German Shepherd/Malinois cross, whose father is an active K-9 dog.  A loving but inexperienced family bought Ninja to be a family pet, not knowing the exercise and training he required. Although they loved him very much, they were overwhelmed.
Thankfully, when he became too much to handle they reached out to us.

Ninja is a sweet boy with lots of energy.  Although he is obedience trained he is very stubborn.  Although he listens well sometimes he just wants to be an adolescent.  He is incredibly strong but his temperament is soft so he does not respond well to hard corrections.  Ninja walks well on a leash and loves to meet new people and other dogs on walks - he does well being out and about and has excellent manners. Ninja is great in the car and makes an exceptional co-pilot.   With his previous owners Ninja never went anywhere and was not exposed to the usual adventures. So, as part of his training, he is being introduced to new places and people and does very well.

With other dogs, Ninja is a VERY rough and tumble player and is overwhelming for most dogs.   Therefore we want to place him as an only dog.  Although he loves other dogs we feel his power and exuberance would be too much for them.  He is 90 lbs. of solid muscle and his speed is unbelievable.  Ninja had been going to doggie daycare but he began to annoy the other dogs and would create chaos. When Ninja is bored he can become a brat and likes to annoy because he gets attention.  He does great in a structured environment, is obedient, will follow you around and be a great companion.  A whole world opened up for Ninja when he learned how to play ball with 2 tennis balls.  He is so gentle he will not destroy a tennis ball even when he chews on them.  Daily exercise is a must for Ninja or he will tail spin and become anxious.   Ninja MUST HAVE A FENCED IN YARD.  If he hears a loud noise he can get spooked and may bolt.

We do not recommend Ninja  WITH CHILDREN UNDER 16 because of  his size, power and rambunctiousness.    He came from a home with 5 kids and they played very rough with him.  When we first got him any little bit of affection was thought of as play and he would escalate and begin to get very rambunctious.  We are continuing to work on that and he has gotten much better. So we would like to place him in a home with no children or visiting children.

Ninja has NO food or toy aggression.  He will easily let you take anything from him.  He also has very little prey drive.  Deer and squirrels cross our path during our walks and he will just watch and wait until they go by.  He is a very gentle boy and will lightly sniff a turtle but make no attempt to touch it.  He is curious but completely non aggressive.  He is a true gentle giant.

With that said, we would not recommend Ninja with cats. He is a ’cat stalker’ and will stare and hunt them. When given the chance to sniff Linus kitty, he will nose bop him so hard that Linus sails across the room. He also will try to nibble on Linus and that is not a good sign. He doesn’t know his own strength. So no cats please.

Ninja is a very unique dog.  He is a big, goofy, sweet boy that is extremely strong and can be quite headstrong.  He can get scared at loud noises and certain situations but is a confident dog with people and other dogs.  He is a very special boy and we are looking for a very special home that will love and understand him and make him the great dog he can be.   Ninja lost out on his puppyhood so he is an adolescent with the mind of a puppy.  He needs someone who will continue his training to help him to mature into a confident and happy adult.

Ninja must have an experienced gsd owner who knows the breed and a fenced in yard.

Ninja is neutered, up to date on shots and on heart worm preventative. If you are interested in this beautiful, sweet boy, please contact Donna J. at Shepherds Hope Rescue at Bluemoonblue13@gmail.com.

PLEASE NOTE: Ninja is being fostered by our friends at Shepherds Hope Rescue please click to apply for Ninja.
