Large sable male should be 85 pounds but is 64. He appears to be from the German lines so he is higher strung that the average American lines of German Shepherd. Yet he is very smart and a good companion to some that understands and is experienced with the breed. He was found running near a highway and when we finally found the owner, the owner chose to have me place him in a better home. The dog never meets a stranger, knows basic obedience, but gets very excited about car rides. I can't trust him alone in the house yet and I was told that he destroyed another lady's crate. I found out from the owner that this dog has lived alone in a building for two years because they wanted a watch dog but this dog wants to be a family dog. He is quiet, hasn't barked yet, and loves to be loved. The owner also thinks he is underweight due to stress and running back and forth at the business all night. All this explains his fear of being left behind and low weight. He has only been with me two nights and has already calmed down and shows signs of improvement. He follows me from room to room but when I sit, he lays down in the room. He needs someone that understands separation anxiety and how to help the dog heal vs making him worse. He is actually a very good dog, calm in the house unless he knows we are going outside, and I would love for him to remain with me except for the fact that he tried to bite at my cat twice. He shows too much interest in chasing squirrels so I don't recommend him around small things that run fast. He was attacked by a smaller dog the other day and he did not respond but to pull his head up and ignore the attack. He does pull on leash so I use a prong collar to keep from getting pulled in to traffic. He was found with a choke chain which can damage the trachea of a dog that pulls hard so I don't recommend that type collar. He still isn't eating well so may need more tests to make sure his stomach and intestines are clear and also to check for any underlying thyroid issue. He is heartworm clear. I have wormed him and he is currently on a thirty day flea preventative and his thirty day heartguard. His only issues seem to be separation anxiety and refusal to eat like he should. This dog MUST be neutered, NO exceptions, but currently the list is the end of the month before I can get it done.
