German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult
DUKE ~6 years old. Good with older considerate children and dogs. Not good with Cats. GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only Have you ever seen a child on Christmas morning and the joy they have as they run to see what Santa has left for them under the tree? Well that is how Duke feels when he gets to go for a walk. Every walk is like Christmas time for him. Maybe he never got to go for a walk in his life before GSRA. When he was at the shelter, they said he would shut down as soon as a leash was put on him. But with a little TLC he learned how wonderful they could be. He loves going for walks, hikes in the woods and exploring the great outdoors. If you are up for exploring he is ready to go and if you want to relax, he is right there with you too. Duke is a sweet, loving and gentle boy. He loves being with his human family and even though he loves attention; he’s never been pushy about it. Duke can be a little shy in the beginning but once he knows he is safe, you have a big loveable happy boy. And how does he like belly rubs you ask; well let me tell you, he loves them too. In fact sometimes when you are giving a belly rub, it’s almost like he is purring. :~) He has been great with his canine foster siblings but can be a little unsure of them in the beginning. So slow intros work best for him. He has free roam 24/7 with the other pups and has always been a perfect gentleman. Duke was an owner surrender with no reason given as to why his family was throwing him away. :~( He is so sweet and gentle that I can’t imagine why anyone would want to give him up. <3 Duke would do best in a home that enjoys being outdoors and going for walks/hikes. He would do well with a calm, laid back dog or as an only dog if someone was home a lot. Duke WILL require a 6’ fenced yard b/c he can jump a 4-5’ fence. He does have a high prey drive so there will be no cats in his future. Do you think this big boy might be the right fit for you home?
