GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only

Say hello to Sam, Sam Shepherd! Not to be confused with Sam Shepard, noted playwright and actor. :-) Our Sam Shepherd found himself half naked at the shelter, suffering from flea bites and a skin infection so irritating that he scratched off most of the hair from the rear half of his body. Poor guy, we can only imagine the misery he lived with. Well THAT’S all over now. With just two short weeks of good vet care and living in a safe, happy environment, Sam’s skin is looking worlds better and his hair is growing back glossy and thick. He begged us not to show any photos of his still mostly naked self, but he’s such a wonderful boy we think GSRA’s fans should get to watch him grow back to full handsomeness. And very handsome that will be, don’t you agree?
Sam is a delightful boy, both inside and out – he walks nicely on leash, and has lovely house manners. He can be crated but isn’t a fan of it. With me he earned the right to be loose in the house when home alone within about two days, which is remarkable. In fact, in a decade of fostering I’ve never worried LESS about what my foster might be up to while I was away than I do with Sam, he’s THAT good -- although I still wouldn’t leave a roast on the edge of the counter and walk away, no sense testing the limits of his good behavior. :-) Sam is way more interested in being with his person or people than interacting with any other dog in the house, so he’d be fine as an only dog, or with another low-key dog. He’s probably NOT a good fit for someone looking for a play buddy for their current dog. He’s a relatively low-key guy himself so his exercise needs will be met by a couple moderate walks a day. He enjoys a little ball playing if he can get it (see video below), but even that’s a relatively low-key affair.
Sam is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and heartworm negative! He’s also looking for his happy ending (hint, hint, that’s where YOU come in!). Can you help him find it?
