GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only
Greetings everyone! My name is Rosie! I am a mature and beautiful girl in search of my new home. There is not much known about my background; I was picked up as a stray in a rural area, and I was in very poor condition. I was extremely thin, covered in mats of fur, filthy, and heart worm positive. To put it mildly, I was a big train wreck! Thankfully though, GSRA looked past my disheveled hair and decided to take me so that I could have a chance at a happy, carefree life. Since coming into GSRA I have cleaned up considerably and now everyone can see that I'm quite a gentle dog. I like nothing more than being near my person. I will follow you around all day and just rest nearby when you are doing something. I am an older girl, the vet estimates that I am between nine and 11 years old. I have considerable arthritis in my rear legs but, despite this, I get along just fine. I even break into a slow run on occasion when playing with some of the other foster dogs in the household! I am a very laid-back girl and am content to supervise what you are doing and, when the opportunity is there, I will come over for some head rubs and neck scratches! I ride very well in the car. My foster mom takes me to work every day. I cannot get into the SUV by myself, but will stand and let myself be lifted up into it. I might be able to get into a smaller car that is closer to the ground. I am a very well-behaved girl and can be trusted loose in the house for the most part. The only time I get a little bit rambunctious or destructive is during thunderstorms. I am petrified of thunderstorms! I am a very tolerant dog and have been exposed to several resident dogs as well as other foster dogs. I have a very motherly personality about me. I will correct young and rambunctious dogs without getting too snarky. Sometimes the young'uns will want to play with me but I'm won't be in the mood for it. In those cases I will give them a quick bark and a snap and they generally get the hint! The other dogs in my foster home give me the respect I deserve because of my age! I am very food motivated and will look at you with big, brown eyes so I can get occasional scraps from the table. I know that my people say this is not a good thing, but the way I look at it, with my advanced age what's it going to hurt? I deserve to be spoiled for my remaining time, right?! I have not met a stranger -I am confident and gentle, I will let anyone approached me without showing any signs of aggression or apprehension! My foster Mom says I've been a very well-rounded dog in her home and that I truly deserve to live out my years with someone who will spoil me. From foster mom: Rosie is a fantastic dog - a true ambassador to the breed. She has clearly had a rough life, but is so deserving of a nice retirement home where she will be spoiled and pampered and shown love. She has so many good characteristics and behaviors that she must have been cared for at some point. When Rosie was initially brought to the vet, we had to have a mammary tumor removed. The vet got good margins, but the biopsy did demonstrate that it was cancerous in nature. We had the vet do a chest x-ray, and there were some white spots present in her lungs. Rosie will be re-x-rayed in mid October to see if there are any changes in the lungs. We need to determine if the cancer has metastasize before we elect to put her through heart worm treatment. She is such a gentle soul, we are hoping that the white spots are just an anomaly Rosie has the most fantastic personality. She does not take the best pictures in the world, but when you interact with her she is truly a sweet and unique soul. She loves her people! If you would like to find out more about Rosie, please reach out to the rescue. She may have several years left or she may only have a few months. Either way, she deserves the very best we can offer her and you will feel the same after meeting her - this girl will make a lasting impression on your heart! Please check for updates in the next few weeks after we get her re-x-rayed!
