LEXI ~8 years old.  Kids, dogs, and cats TBD.

GSRA Adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only

If you are looking for the perfect family dog, look no further...you have found her! Lexi is all that AND a bag of chips!

Lexi came to GSRA after her owner fell on hard times. Until then, Lexi had been a loved friend and companion. Unlike many of the dogs that come in to GSRA, Lexi has only known kindness, love and what it means to belong. Understandably, losing her "person" and home was hard on her. She is a very sensitive girl and tends to get anxious in new settings. However, once you understand that about her, and can help her through the adjustment period, Lexi blossoms into the most wonderful dog!

Lexi gets along with all creatures great and small - cats, dogs, kids...you name it. Lexi approaches everyone with a gentle wag of her tail and the hope that they will be her new best friend. Lexi has a very playful side and would love a canine companion who is willing to wrestle with her when the idea strikes her. Lexi is a bit of a princess and would prefer a male companion, however if a female dog were submissive I think she would do fine with that also. In her foster home, Lexi lives with 5 other dogs of varying ages, breeds and genders and gets along perfectly with them all.

Lexi has displayed some anxiety when left alone in the house and so, for her safety she must be crated until she relaxes and understands her people will always come home to her. She is not a fan of the crate, but if the crate is reinforced with zip ties Lexi accepts she cannot escape and will patiently wait to be released. Lexi is an olympic-class counter surfer!!!! Seriously - this girl has GAME!!!! No kind of food is safe from Lexi when she is on the prowl. In addition, this clever cookie can open long-handled doors! Two additional reasons why Lexi needs to be in the safe confines of a crate when she can't be supervised!

Lexi needs some work on leash walking - she is always in a hurry to get...well, somewhere! This has gotten better the more relaxed she has become in her foster home, so again, with patience, Lexi will be an excellent walking partner for someone. Lexi LOVES riding in the car and will stick her head out the window to feel the wind in her hair. On longer rides she lies down and simply takes a nap. Out in public you could not ask for a better dog. Lexi is the kind of girl who will be welcome at any outing: cafe, dog park, sports park, brew pub, school....you name it, Lexi will be there with bells on!

Lexi is a joy to be around. She will require patience and understanding as she adjusts to a new home, but dog you will get in return will be more than worth the effort you put in to making her feel comfortable. Lexi is a gentle soul with a heart as big as the sun and a true desire to be a part of someone's family.
