NATASHA ~7 years old.  Good with older considerate children.  Dogs and cats TBD.

GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.

Natasha is a dark beauty with a sweet personality and a fairly recent troubled past. She was owner-surrendered to the shelter right as she hit the golden age of 7 because her elderly owners could no longer care for her.  She seems to have been mostly well taken care of as she was turned in with all of her vet records all the way back to puppyhood - a plethora of information that we rarely get with shelter dogs!

Natasha worries a lot  - well, who wouldn’t when they’ve lost the only life they’ve ever known - and really clings to her foster mama for comfort.  One of the ways we are working to help her with her separation anxiety is to drop her off at our vet’s daycare once a week so that she is used to being handled by other people, being around other dogs and she knows that we will come back for her.  The first time we did this, she was very nervous but is now getting the hang of the routine.  All the vet techs love her and comment on how sweet she is  She also has thunder phobia but I just put her in her Thundershirt and on leash during a storm, keep her close and turn on a little ‘white noise’ - tv, cooktop fan, dishwasher, etc. - in the background to mask the sound and she does well.

She is a nice medium energy girl - she loves to play fetch with her ball and will actually bring it back and drop it for you.  She  is also perfectly content to lay at my feet inside and mouth on toys - she especially likes the squeaky ones and will squeak happily away until she decides it’s time to ‘kill’ the squeaker.  Natasha assessed really nicely with other dogs at the shelter but had a rather bad intro to a dominant male as she came into the rescue which seems to have made her wary of other dogs.  She is very attached to her foster mama and we believe may be also doing a little resource guarding.  We are continuing to assess this but for now would recommend that she be an only dog or possibly with a very low key male.

For a 7 year old gal, Natasha is very energetic and powerful.  We have been working on leash manners with her and she has really gotten the hang of this so long as she has a good leader to follow.  She can be a bit of a bull and push or plow her way through both on leash or if she wants extra attention.  For this reason, we recommend no small children.  To help build her confidence and continue to work on her anxiety issues, we require GSD/working dog experience and experience dealing with anxious dogs.  A stay-at-home human who can continue the positive reinforcement training that we’ve started would be ideal.

Natasha is not apartment/condo appropriate as she can be very vocal when left alone - lots of yappy, protest barking. She does great in a fenced yard and isn’t interested in challenging the fence at all. Again, she really just wants to be with her person, preferably *inside* as she regularly nudges and herds her foster mama back towards the house when we are in the yard together and Natasha suspects imminent storms.

Natasha loves to ride and is a very polite backseat driver.  She has become quite the connoisseur of drive thrus and especially enjoys french fries in all shapes.  Who doesn’t?!  She is an *occasional* Pokemon Go player and is ready and willing to accompany you on your Pokemon adventures and help you catch ‘em all.  As a substitute for catching Pokemon, she is also very happy to protect and defend her yard from squirrels and lizards.  Natasha is just waiting to catch your heart
