LAYLA ~5 years old. Good with kids, male dogs and cats. Not good with female dogs. Like a magnificent phoenix rising from the ashes, so has Layla left behind her unthinkable past to emerge as an amazing GSD. True to her breed, this resilient girl is intensely loyal, extremely intelligent, and very self-assured, as well as being funny, gentle and winsome. Before coming to GSRA, Layla had been abandoned at a local shelter by a family who was “tired of taking care of her”. Once with GSRA, Layla spent the first several days quite literally fighting for her life. Thanks to terrific GSRA volunteers, generous donations from supporters of GSRA and the wonderful staff at Quail Animal Hospital, Layla overcame a multitude of medical issues and with just a little pill at mealtime is a now a content, happy girl. Layla LOVES, LOVES, LOVES her people and is a true VELCRO dog. When meeting children on her daily walks, she licks them, lets them pet her and enjoys being around them. She seems to ignore cats and gets along well with most dogs outside the home. Like many alpha female GSDs, she prefers to be the only female dog in the house.
Since Layla is so human oriented, it is best that her forever home be with either a stay at home or work from home person, or one that has a calm male companion dog around. She would be extremely unhappy being left for 8 plus hours a day completely alone. She needs someone that can help her continue to embrace life and all of its adventures! She enjoys walks through the neighborhood and belly rubs at home.
