RIVER~10 months old. Good with older considerate children, dogs and cats.
GSRA Adopts in NC, SC, & VA ONLY
Hello world! My name is River. I am a 10 month old pup who was in a sticky situation and found myself homeless through no fault of my own. I am a very sweet and intelligent girl, I know how to 'sit' and I will 'shake' with you. I love my canine friends and I have even been friendly with some felines! I love to play and run like all typical pups and I am learning how to fetch too! One of my favorite things is gnawing on a nylabone! My awesome Foster Mom knows that I still like to chew since my adult teeth are still settling in my mouth. I am crate trained, and since I do like to chew I spend time there when my foster family are away from the house. I love being with my humans though as much as possible. And since I am learning what not to chew, mom lets me sleep on the bed at night! She gives me my bone to keep with me so if I wake and need to be occupied I will have it handy. I occasionally will "talk" but usually if I am playing, or need to go outside, I might even whine a bit to get attention. I like kids, but GSRA policy says because I am under one year of age, I cannot go to a home with kids younger than 8 years old. I love playing with my foster sister Gheydis who herself is a GSRA Alum. I would be happy as an only dog if there is a human home that is willing to provide significant exercise, training, love and affection.
So I think I am the perfect girl for a Super furever home! Just take one look at my beautiful face and coloring and you will fall in love with me! So how about it? Can I be YOUR furever baby?
Special needs: River went to vet on 09/27/2014 and examined. It was determined that she definitely has hip dysplasia in the left hip.
The recommendation from the vet for her is: 1. Keeping her lean. 2. Keeping her active - not overactive not to point of hurting her or making her sore or tired, but good daily walks and exercise to keep the muscle mass up, strong and functional. 3. A good quality, reliable long term joint supplement such as one of the following: Phycox, Cosequin capsules or chews, Dasuquin Chews or Glycoflex. 4. Adequan injections.( They normally start with 10 injections within the first 2 months and then one monthly. There is no need to put her on rimadyl or other medications at moment.
