Hi! My name is Laska, formerly called "Sweetie Pie" by the shelter staff.  I am a super-duper sweet girl who loves to cuddle and snuggle. I want to be near my people all the time! I came to this wonderful rescue group very, very sick and they are helping me to get all better! I feel tons better already than I did before I got here. I'm still figuring things out and deciding who I am going to be. I have been through a lot in my life and there are some things I've not done before, like playing. My foster Mom says when I get all better from my ickies I will learn to play more and have lots of fun! Right now, I'm super quiet, super calm and SUPER sweet all of the time. I love my foster brother and he shows me the ropes and protects me while I sleep. My foster Mom says she will update my 'page' and bio as I develop and grow in my new happy, safe and healing environment.

UPDATE: Since Laska is feeling much better than she was when GSRA brought her in, she has developed a decent amount of spunk! She has a moderate to large amount of energy and loves to play with other dogs. She likes to play ball but only when she's in the mood. When walking her if you watch closely her body language will tell you if there is another person within hearing distance (handy for evening walks!). She is too adorable for words and loves to hang out on the couch. She has a bit of a curious side and is crated sometimes when I leave for work because of it. She does not mind her crate but her feelings might get hurt if she's in her crate and she knows other dogs are going outside to play without her.

Laska's Mini-Diary

8/9/12: Some really nice lady came and got me out of the shelter today. I was happy about that, even though the shelter staff were nice to me it was not very relaxing to be there since I am sick. The nice lady also took my shelter sister with us and we got in her car. I felt really bad and may have been a little grouchy. Every little while, the car would stop and my shelter sister and I would go take a potty and stretch our legs before getting in another car with other very, very nice people until I ended up at this house where somebody called 'Foster Mom' lives.  She cried and hugged me and loved me up and down and said "Whoa, girl! You're covered in fleas!" and then I got a bath (which I was not crazy about). After that I got to go inside and take a nap with my foster brother, who is awesome.

8/10/12: Today I rode to the park with Foster Mom and brother for the first time. I was scared and rode in the front with Mom. When we got to the park I was curious but didn't want to get too far from my Foster Brother or Mom. Not feeling awesome today. Foster Mom said in the car "Laska, was that a cough?!?" but I don't know what that means.

8/11/12:  3:24AM I CAN'T BREATHE! Oh my goodness this is terrible *coughing fit* - I go into Foster Mom's room and she sits straight up when she hears me panic for breath that I cannot catch because of the coughing. She picked me up and held me close, which calmed me down so I could stop coughing. She held me there like that whispering softly to me and stroking my fur while she got on her computer and started trying to find us some help. I dozed off while my Foster Mom was on and off the phone until almost daylight. She said I was snotting all over her pillow but she did not care and let me stay right where I was! I went to the vet later that day and they gave me lots of pills to take. Foster Mom called it an Upper Respiratory Infection, whatever that is, I just know I don't feel good at ALL.

8/12/12: I'm starting to feel better! Foster Mom says I'm not as snotty, but I still don't want to eat much at all yet.

8/15/12: I picked up a ball today at the park! I bounced for about 1.5 seconds and then I felt bad again so I stopped and laid down. Foster Mom says "Laska, don't push yourself! Easy does it!"  So that's what I'm doing.

8/17/12: I like the couch. A lot. Foster Mom gave me a medicated bath today to help with my itchies! She says we'll have a doctor look at my skin soon. I felt better after my bath and ran inside and LEAPED onto the couch and began to roll around like a wiggle worm. Foster Mom laughed and foster brother looked at me like I'm weird. Whatever. My couch.

8/24/12: Foster Mom took me back to the doctor today. They say I have pretty bad ear infections that are very old. I got medicine for my ears that they say will make the pain stop. I hope they are right. I liked going home and playing with my brother outside in the sun!

9/27/12: I want to apologize for not writing in my doggie mini-diary lately. My Foster Mom has had a family crisis and I have been very busy taking care of her during this time and forgot all about my diary! She was sad so I gave her LOTS of cuddles and kisses and stayed right by her side during the whole thing.  Anyway, I guess I will summarize things for you! My ears are MUCH better and they barely hurt at all anymore! YAY! My skin is much better and a lot less itchy now that I've gotten special baths to fix that. My coat now SHINES and I like to PLAY outside with my foster brother and neighborhood friends. Foster Mom says I'm blossoming now that I feel better, whatever that means...I'm not a flower, I'm a dog. I am learning obedience and I'm very good at it because Foster Mom says all the time "Wow Laska! You are so smart and you are catching on so fast! Good girl!" and I like it a lot when she says that. I went hiking for the first time yesterday and had a GREAT time exploring and hanging out with my Foster Brother in the woods by the river.

10/15/12 My skin is pretty much all better now. Foster Mom says that I shine like a new penny! I have more energy now that I'm not sick anymore and I really love to play with other dogs. My Foster Mom got me a foster sister the other week and we aren't really crazy about each other. Probably because she started it by growling at me the first time she saw me! But foster Mom gave us each our own room and we go out separately and everything is great! I really wanted to be my Foster Sister's friend....Foster Mom says it's because she's "had it very rough and she's a little older and extremely tired from her ordeal". I can understand that, I didn't have it so great at one time either. Foster Mom tells me all the time "Girl you are the most LOVING little thing I've ever SEEN!" and I just snuggle closer when she says that.

10/23/12 WEE! I am my foster Mom's alarm clock! I hate the sound of that stupid machine thingie and Foster Mom makes it go off, like, a million times before she gets out of bed. So guess what? I HELP her! When the alarm goes off, I jump on the bed and stand on top of foster Mom so she will shut the alarm off and get up. That way I can catch a short nap before a morning play with my foster brother.
